Hi all, We're finally starting a new image contest on this forum ! And there is a prize to win : a copy of "Shades of Reality" by our sponsor Hawkin-Z GraF-X ! Here are the rules : - The theme is the B-movie : horror, sci-fi, western ... - The image must be realized mostly in Carrara or RDS . It must be still, in JPG or GIF format and preferably less than 150 ko . - The contest ends on 30th June . Two days before, i will start a new thread in this forum where submitters will be allowed to upload their entries . - Judges will be : Terri Willis ( the previous winner ), Clint Hawkins from Hawkin-Z GraF-X, and me . - Terri says that pictures accompanied by small gifts of chocolate for yours truly will receive special consideration . I'd personnaly prefer some good cheese ( not cheddar, please ! ) - The winner will receive a copy of "Shades of Reality" for Carrara or RDS, PC or Mac . For more information, see the attached link . Good luck ! Don't hesitate to ask if there is any question . litst litst.@freesbee.fr

Gosh, litst, I was just settingling down to a nice batch of cheddar-garlic biscuits. Guess you don't want me to mail you some? By the way, I showed my brother that picture you posted of you (I assume it was your post cheddar hulk phase) and he giggled for about five minutes. And I got to tell you, a giggling grown man is a little disturbing. --Terri

Please Terri, keep your POISON !!! Hey, my mom giggled too when she read the conversations you had with your dog ! And it wasn't my fault, this time ... By the way, Terri did the title image of the first message . Don't you think it looks like some kind of red, melting cheese ? ;) litst

Very cool contest idea! And thanks for including RDS! This is my kind of topic.... - Chip

twillis ( ) posted Tue, 01 May 2001 at 10:43 AM

BTW, Chip, I tried, but couldn't think of a good "RDS" B-movie title, when I was making the "It Came From Carrara" picture. Just so you know I wasn't trying to snub RDS users on purpose. This time. Maybe something like "RDS True Confessions" or "I Married an RDS User From Outer Space", would have worked. --Terri

Or what about Twenty Million Years to Carrara 2.0? Invasion of the Patch Snatchers? Li'l Orphan RDS? Just a few thoughts. Random as they are....

The Spline Modeller That Would Not Die OK, that one's obviously not based in reality. My Carrara dies all the time. I've been trying to think of a good "Micky Spillane" title. Or one involving the Teen Menace. Hmmm. The "Spline Menace" kind of sums up my feelings pretty well.

Im a bit confused... what is the B-movie?

litst ( ) posted Tue, 01 May 2001 at 8:01 PM

To me, it's a cheap, obscure movie that you watch eating pop-corn in the drive-ins . Not the kind of movie you'll see in Cannes ! :) litst

Sorry, I use a little too much slang sometimes. Please, anyone, let me know when I do this. Basically, a B-movie is a low budget movie. I like watching cheesy (bad) movies, it's one of my biggest vices, so of course I must inflict my terrible taste on the rest of you. B-movies typically have implausible stories, sensationalized topics, and my favorite have silly monsters. They're called B-movies, to indicate they're a lower grade than "A" movies. A bunch of B-movies were made in the 50's, partly to fill in the demand created by the popularity of drive-ins. Of course, people still make B-movies today. Just think low-budget. Most of the ones I'm familiar with were sci-fi, but that is not the only genre. Women in prison movies, biker movies, law-breaking teenagers are also popular B-movie themes. Some sci-fi B-movies I can think of are: I Married a Monster From Outer Space Teenage Werewolf It Conquered The World Plan 9 From Outer Space Teenagers From Outer Space (yes, a sure tip-off is the phrase "from outer space") If you've ever watched Mystery Science Theatre, you've seen B-movies. It's the kind of stuff that shows up on late-night TV. I hope that helps; you probably know what B-movies are, you just call them something else. Let me know if you want me to come up with some more examples. Sorry about being unclear. Everyone hear speaks such great English, I forget sometimes that it's not everyone's first language. --Terri

The term "B" movie comes from a time in Hollywood when movie stars were catagorized as "A" list, "B" list. (Eventually, when Television appeared, TV actors were added to the catagorization in a status "well below" the "B" list actors.) "B Movies," then, were the productions the studios were less proud of and put less money and effort into. Particularly after the advent of Television, "B" movies became the type Terri described above. Generally considered not to be serious cinema, "B" movies usually involved exploitation of some sort -- teenage (though usually played by people in their 20's) rebellion, alien invasions, robots, and small towns being over-run by some sort of terror. (I could go on and on and on about this, but I don't want to bore anyone.)

I think this is a great topic for a contest. I'm really looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. Should be fun and interesting. ;) I would like to thank litst for allowing me to be a judge as well as letting my company provide a prize. As a side note: If the winner is a RDS user then the Shades of Reality shader pack for RDS will be awarded as the prize. Good luck to everyone! Best Regards, Clint Hawkin-Z GraF-X

The Cat From Outer Space was a pretty low budget film. It rocked though. =P

How many entries can we put in? Also, I understand the deadline date but what time? I'm in the Pacific time zone so does that mean I have to have my entry in by 9:00 pm my time? Thanks, -Kix

OOPS ! I'm sorry Kixum, i thought i had replied your message a long time ago ! Something must have gone wrong somewhere, i guess ... I hope it's not too late for you . You can enter how many entries as you like . Even several renders of the same scene if you want . Concerning the deadline, we won't be too pointy about that, don't worry ;) litst litst.@freesbee.fr
