Subject: Poser 7 Crashes

P7 crashes when I try to open any poser scene file that was creted in P7. I should add that all the P7 poser scene files that I have contain V4. Is this adouble or single whammy?
Anyone else have this catastrophic problem?

Sucks doesn't it.  It's happened to me three or four times, once just now with my latest gallery posting - I lost nearly all the work I'd put in except the materials.  Only advice I can give is save often, to different filenames, until you are ready to add to your library.

I don't get to save it just crashes on opening.

Netherworks ( ) posted Sat, 16 December 2006 at 3:35 AM

Does it have the same effect if you turn off "Use Binary Morphs" in preferences?

Oops, I misunderstood, I thought it had eaten a particular file you were already working (different bug that is affecting me).  Netherworks may have better advice...

THANKS NETHERWORKS - i TRIED YOUR SUGGSSTION BUT IT STILL CRASHHES OUT ON OPENING.
This is crazy.

Are you able to create a new file, add character(s) to it, save it and open it?

That's apparently a known bug with V4 and External Morphtargets ON. I'm afraid your old scenes are hosed, but any new ones you save, with User External Morphtargets UNchecked.. should open.

Do they?

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.

New wrinckle/catastrophe. I was able to open an early very simple V4 figure - worked on it for a couple of hours - carried away by my own creativeness so forgot to save and added a new figure - the freebie shoe character that comes with the pro-pack or whatever they call it. I could not get it to conform ad deleted and bang immediate crash /close P7!!

THIS IS SENDING ME CRAZY - NO CONSITENTCY IN ANY OF THESE FAILURES.

pigfish9 ( ) posted Sat, 16 December 2006 at 7:05 PM

I've had the same thing happen with V4 in Poser 6 (my P7 doesn't arrive until Monday).  Where is the external morphtargets checkbox?  I'm currently rendering a dancing Grinch animation and don't want to interrupt Poser.

It's in the Edit Menu under General Preferences. I believe it's on the first tab of the GP but it may be embedded in one of the other tabs.

Crashed when using morph tool.....did a fair amount of manipulation them wammy...no warning......Apllication totaly disappears.
Fairly stable aside from that for me. So far......

pruiz ( ) posted Sat, 16 December 2006 at 9:45 PM

Yah but fairly stable doesn't get it when you lose a whole lot of work - it's got to be stable all the time under normal operation or . . .

Well also be aware of your video card settings. I hear tell that the word on the street is sometimes it's good to lower hardware acceleration all the way down. Don't know if it'll help though.

Spoke too soon.......tried Python Script launcher app.... selected export to DXF......bye bye...
Geez...ya think there would be a warning or something....ahhhhhhhh
So that's three wonky things for me so far.

Inside Poser 7, I used scene created in Poser6, with external binary morphs and compression on.   No problems.  Save inside Poser 7 with exetrnal binary morphs on, and file compression on, no problems.  Re-loaded scene into Poser 7, no problems.
