Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
Hmm, a thought. I had the scene go blank when I applied a texture that couldn't found ( from an external runtime folder) and told it to stop looking. From there it just froze and I had to force quit. Maybe when it has to look outside for things it gets upset? Just to be clear this isn't a mac thing is it? I'm on a mac.
That is Lightning Man and Teyon did model him. He looks like he could come from the same Superhero universe as the Incredibles. LM is very cool!
Anyway--I am very concerned about this glitch. Combining Pz3 files is something I do all the frikking time. I haven't upgraded yet and this is important to me.

Tell'em to piss off. Unfortunately there are more than our fair share of dysfuntional bung-holes around here. Don't let the trolls phase you, if you can help it.

I've had this problem combining scenes in P6. Save the lights you want to keep, then delete them from the scenes and save them. After the scenes are conbined, reload the lights. This is the only way I've found around this problem. I think it's funny that half of the bugs found in a new release always seem to be the little noticed bugs from the previous one...
Here's the deal ... like so many others I had some problems with P7 loading a .pz3 made with P6 using props and textures from one of my external runtimes. The deep search didn't work and it hung when it couldn't find one of the .obj files so I was forced to do a hard quit. Then I had the obligatory brain fart (all right ... no laughing! you all know what I'm saying...lol) and I reopened P7 to find that I had failed to load the appropriate external runtime. Once I did that the scene opened without a hitch.
Just a thought for some of us who are trying to see what the render times will be like in existing scenes.

Yeah I ran into that little joy myself but I knew it wasn't a bug and as soon as the PZ3 started "Looking" for things I knew I'd forgoten to add the runtime for it to search.
As I said in Ziggie's thread, the double named lights was also something that happened in previous Posers. You just learn to save your light set and delete all lights before importing the file you want to merge. It's not really a bug so much as on oversight in workflow. Well it might be a bug if they didn't intend for it to work this way, but who knows the mind of the programmers these days? Not me!

Well now I've run into something really weird.
The imported scene opens just fine. I've changed the light set to something a little more to my liking and added an HDR image to light 3 and that's okay too but when I go to render my scanner window opens. Now, I'm the only one in here and my scanner is on a shelf where the copy and scan buttons are not likely to be pressed accidently so I don't know what's going on here. Any ideas?

Quote - Except for the bright lights weren't her only problem with importing the Pz3. The lights were 'locked' (which never happened to me in P6) AND the scene renders oddly now. So the same but NOT the same as the problem in Poser 6.
Yeah I read that as well, but as I said, if you delete your current lights BEFORE importing the second scene you don't get two sets of lights with the same name which (I'm assuming) causes the lockups to begin with.. I know I don't get lockups when I do this step before importing a second PZ3.
You're correct about Poser 6 not locking up if I didn't but it still had a rare tendency to do weird things to the lights because you had two sets of lights with the same names.
Sorry for my absence here.
The PZ3 I loaded was the PAD one that comes with Poser 7. That neat apartment.
I eventually got it to render, by removing all shadows from my lights and then adding one light with a raytraced shadow.
Thing is, I really like the default lightset in the Pad, and it's a bit tricky to recreate (lots of spotlights)
Next time, I'll try saving the PAD's lights, delete them from teh pz3, resave it and see if that helps :) Thanks for the idea.

Ziggie mentioned it as a problem, and there are situations where iit's not enough to OPEN a PZ3. when you want to incorporate two scenes into one, you would import the PZ3.
And as ziggie found, the lights go all wonky. uber-bright and they're locked, too.
So I ran the Delete Lights python script and got rid of the lights. And then I added some new ones. But the scene renders odd now. it's like it's rendering through a black weil. The scene is visible, but barely. I HAVE made sure that the camera isn't inside a wall. And this is after a reboot.
So... Is it an official bug? Or just me?
