Subject: Renderosity Crashing Firefox occasionally

MikeJ ( ) posted Sat, 16 December 2006 at 7:51 AM · edited Thu, 09 January 2025 at 3:30 PM

About 10 minutes ago, a page here crashed  Firefox, for the third time in the past two days.
I mean as in a seeya later, I'm outta here sorta crash. Just poof - no hanging, no spinning hourglass, no apologies. It's like witnessing an execution or something. It's happened before, but it's been a while. The pages that crashed it were not the same, and I just tried the most recent offender again with no problem.
It's the most recent version, 1.5.0.8, updated maybe a couple weeks ago, and I also have the most recent Java update installed, if that matters any.

This goes without saying, of course, but I'll say it anyway... Renderosity is the only site where this happens....

I'm not too keen on the idea of using a different browser. I like Firefox more than all of them, and I've tried several. Especially IE 7. Whoever came up with that was smoking crack or something.

OK, thanks , I will. But I just ran the "Check for updates" thing in the FF Help menu and it says no new updates available.
I don't doubt you, but I hope one of the new updates is to fix the update checker. ;)

Me as well and I'm also using Firefox 2. I go for Opera with this site (and I sort of resent having to switch browsers for any website, but especially this one). I would also quite like access to the code that does it (as I imagine would Microsoft :) ) Just think: there's code that craters a specific browser! Nice. Can we see the Opentracker stats too? :)

Hmmmm..I'm using Firefox2 and don't seem to be having any problems.

I run Firefox 2.0 and used to run 1.5+with Java disabled (because I dislike Java), altho'  javascript is enabled.
I've had no crashes with Renderosity since about 1.5.0.4.

Maybe try disabling Java temporarily, to see if this is the issue.

I also use the extensions Noscript and AdBlock Plus which can be used to block
scripts on a site by site basis if necessary.

Thanks for the suggestion, mccoyneil, I'll give that a try. :)

To save you the hassle of searching extensions,
you can go directly to the following addresses:

NoScript            https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/722/
AdblockPlus     https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/
