Subject: Poser 7 Recent Files Feature

Maz ( ) posted Tue, 19 December 2006 at 4:26 AM · edited Mon, 18 November 2024 at 4:23 AM

A feature I've been requesting since Poser 4, the Recent Files facility, has finally been included in Poser 7. According to the manual it's supposed to list the last ten files that you have opened. However, it seems that it only lists the ten files that you opened in the current session. If you haven't used Poser for a week and you want to open the last file you worked on, it just gives a blank list. About as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Or am I missing something?

Hmm, it doesn't do that for me, and I haven't changed any settings that pertain to it.  I get the last 9 files I opened across many multiple sessions, across reboots even.

Did you clean history/cache of your hardrive... during that time ? This might be the problem...

Hmmm. Thanks for the feedback folks. I haven't done anything severe between sessions, just closed Poser and then opened it again. I wonder if it's something to do with the fact that Poser 7 is on hard drive D whereas the pz3 files are on an external USB drive. I'll have to investigate other configurations.

O.o I hadn't noticed that feature and now I'm totally confuzzled...

My list of Recent Pictures shows approximately the two FIRST pictures I ever opened when I got Poser 7, and then one I worked on earlier today. Three files in all. But not a LOT of files that I've worked on (opened AND saved) in the meantime... :m_confused:

I've investigated a bit further and come to the following conclusion.

Recent File works, but only if the drive that the file was saved on is running at the time that you start up Poser. Usually I power up Poser before powering up my USB external drive. Consequently Poser doesn't bother to tell me that I have previously opened or saved files on that drive. If I switch off Poser, then power up the USB drive and then start Poser again, I find that Poser has permanently lost all record of the recently opened files on that drive, though it lists the files on the other fixed drives.

It is therefore slightly more use than an ashtray on a motorbike, but not a lot.

Incidentally, the manual says that Recent File lists the last ten files that you've opened, but it alo lists any new ones that you have created and saved. The manual should therefore say "opened or saved".

Is there an easy and reliable way of reporting this bug officially?

You don't really need the Recent Files choice anyway; the standard file-open dialog includes a better Recent Files list by default.   (This list includes all the PZ3's I opened in *all* Poser versions lately, not just P7.)

Hmm.. While the external drive thing probably has something to do with it, it's not the only reason.

My Poser 7 runs from my USB drive. It's not installed on computer as such, only installed on the removable drive (so I can use it on the laptop with more ease)

However, I do save my files on my C: so...

It's no biggie to me, as I sayd, I wasn't even aware of the feature, so I'm not missing it. But I'm puzzled as to why it only works partially. Files I've saved today doesn't appear in it. Perhaps you need to really open AND save a file before it appears. I'll try that :o)

TrekkieGrrrl, because you have Poser on the external drive and your files on the fixed drive I wouldn't expect you to get the problem. I think my problem is caused because I'm doing it the other way around, with Poser on a fixed disk and my files on the external drive. As to why some of your files aren't listed I have no idea. I found that just opening or just saving works fine, as long as my externl drive is powered up.

Ockham. Brilliant. I never thought of finding recent files like that. Duh! That's my way in future.
