Subject: Seeking Laurel Crown --

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone has happened upon a nice, detailed model of a laurel leaf crown, the type that the Romans and Greeks used. Here is a sample image: I've found a simple model at Baumgarten Enterprises, but it is too simple. Also, there is a leaf crown at RDNA, but the leaves are pointing upward and not laurel leaves. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

The link doesn't work. There is no picture.

You can check at Faery Wylde

Royloo has a head dress that   is for the Koz's UpDo.

If  you search Poser Pros for HD003  you will find some other textures for it too.

Sorry. :blushing: I posted the same question at FaerieWylde. Hopefully I will hear back there also. Acadia, thanks for the reply. I checked Royloo's item, but it's a bit more fantastical than I'm looking for. I fixed the picture into my original post.

yeah, a laurel wreath, like virgil wore in "divine comedy". they have laurel trees around here, but the leaves are really strong-smelling. it'd be a drag havinta wear 'em. maybe somebody with tree-pro could do it, or scan some laurel leaves and turn 'em into 3D leaves in one's modelling software. does bryce have plants? I downloaded the freebie, but I ain't used it.

I downloaded it, and it was well constructed, but too simple for what I needed. I've toyed with Hexagon now and then, so I thought I would give it a try. I've got a start on a crown. I've still got to do some adjusting to the leaves, twisting and such, and then attach them to the circlet with small bits of wire. Here's a WIP.

Manoloz had a crown for Apollo Maximus, some dynamic sandals, and a toga too. They are in the freepozitory I think. Yours is a more realistic model, but if you need it in a hurry his is available.

I'll go look at that ... There are just so many places to search in the community, it's sometimes helpful to just ask! I'll keep working on this and post my results. Perhaps this will my first true prop!

I replied over at Faeriewylde as well, you might look at Baument's Archive he has a laurel on the second row from the bottom, center thumbnail

I did already look at that prop. It is too simple in design for what I need. Thanks though.

I had to sneak in here and mention that your laurel crown you are working on is very nice.  I like it!

Here's my latest version -- I've added bits of wire to attach the leaves to the circlet, and I've bent and twisted the leaves a bit to cup and encircle the head a bit more. I'm planning to offer this as a freebie when I'm done.

Thanks Miss Nancy. I don't know why there are two sideviews, but here is a front view.

Your laurel crown is shaping up excellently. Love the way the leaf tips curl.

I'm using Hexagon ... I'm really flying blind here, but thank you all for the nice comments. I've not done much modelling, so it's all kind of hit and miss. This is one of the few successes I've had so far. I've used it off and on since the big deal this summer to buy the program for 2 dollars for PC members at Daz. I'm having major issues with UV mapping and material zones, but just pulling it as an object file, and applying a metal shader, it looks pretty good.

I need some help with displacement mapping in Poser. I am mainly a Daz Studio user, and so I was able to get my crown to now look like the sample image. But when I attach the displacement maps in the Material Room in Poser, and render, nothing happens. It's the same prop, and attaching the displacement maps to the diffuse channel shows that they are there. I cranked the value up to .4, but still nothing. I am so unfamiliar with Poser that I have no clue what is wrong. I want to package this freebie up so that Poser users can use the displacement maps too. 😕

kalon ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 11:01 AM

If you did this with little modeling, you've inspired me to try again!

Not  sure if you're using P6 and I'm not familiar with P5 or 7, but trying plugging the displacement into the "displacement" node (use low values) and then be sure that use displacement maps is checked in Render Settings.

OOOOOOOOO
@.@ that is very nice. will you offer it as freebie here at rendo?

Channing ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 11:42 AM

Thanks kalon. That was it. I needed to turn on displacement maps in render settings. OK, I'll have this done in the next few days and posted somewhere. Yes, DarkElegance, this will be a freebie. I'm still working out the various material room settings in Poser. Everything is different from Daz Studio, so it will take a bit to get an approximate look to what I have achieved in Daz Studio.

Channing ( ) posted Sun, 24 December 2006 at 1:19 PM

Alright. It's done. Or done as much as I want to do at this point. I made a poser and Daz Studio version. They are over at FaerieWylde here: http://www.faeriewylde.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?p=232379#232379 Happy Holidays.
