Subject: Is there one person in the UK thats got the P7 box yet?

tez12 ( ) posted Tue, 19 December 2006 at 6:44 PM · edited Fri, 26 July 2024 at 12:16 AM

Im interested to know if at least one person has got their poser 7 boxed version within the UK?
If so what was the import and tax total charges.  This will help so I can make sure I keep some money by, and to know what time it took to receive from completed processto the door.

There shouldn't be any by rights!  I got the physical shipment of P6 when that came out and didn't have to pay import taxes, I don't see why I would have to this time!
And No I haven't had it yet!

Haven't got mine yet either but I DID have to pay charges for P6, can't remember how much though (paid and then blocked it out of my mind to avoid the high irritation factor!)

Lillybelles, that's strange!  I can understand paying VAT and I'm pretty sure I did but not import tax, can't remember paying that!

I remember once my Son buying footy boots from America because they were cheaper over there by a long way but then he did get hit with VAT AND Import duty AND handling fee which made them more expensive in the end [LOL]

The physical shipment of P6 was send from UK so there were no import taxes for european customers plus the VAT was already charged as I ordered it at the european Digital River store.

This time we had to order from the e frontier US store directly and since they did only charge for the product you will have to pay VAT plus import taxes when it arrives in Europe. They send it directly from the USA to the european customers, so most likely it won't even be delivered to your door but you will have to pick it up from your local customs office.

Last time I got anythink from the US I had it delivered to my door by Royal mail.  They should pick up the package along with the VAT bill.  I got charged £28 on the door by Royal mail that was including thei postage charges and a fee to pick it up.

Now  according to USPS my order which should have been shiped Global Express Mail should have a tracking number but I havent got one?  The tracking should only expire when it gets into the uk.

Well, I've got a firend that is a policeman and works for customs and excise, and the only time is an offence not to declare import duty is on tabbaco and alcohol.
What does happen is that they may randomly check packages for contents, and may add import duty, if they believe the value of the overall package warrants it. This has happened to me years ago when I bought a copy of Truespace on the web and it arrived in London. It cost me £70 on import duty alone.
Import duty is a funny subject, as it is a bit "moveable", they are all based on taxes applied to foreign goods to force people to buy things inhouse, so to speak. But because at the same time you want to keep foreign investment flowing in, so its never set in stone.
Basically if the goods you are buying are not that expensive (taking over £500 here) try your luck. If you are lucky you don't pay the duty, if you do it won't be that high, and I don't think is an offence.

Depends how the parcel is marked as to what classification it comes under, Books, software, educational or a gift.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Wed, 20 December 2006 at 6:03 AM · edited Wed, 20 December 2006 at 6:10 AM

Not always. I got a gift once from the US (a finger ring), it was clearly marked as a gift, but I had the bad luck that this pack was one of those ramdomly selected ones, and the danish import tax-guys couldn't care less if it said GIFT in big bold letters. I had to pay the equivalent of  £25 / $41 to even GET my GIFT! - and we were talking about a £60/$100 ring, it's not like it was some diamond-encusted monster)

I ordered P7 as a download for that very reason. With VAT and import taxes (if I'm unlucky again) it would cost me AT LEAST the double. And I'm not THAT rich

I've did a search on the USPS website and saw this too so I wonder why the tracking numbers are not provided. Except they maybe have collected the european orders and send them all together in a huge batch?

Shadowdancer ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 4:14 AM

My copy arrived this morning. I got woken up by the Parcelforce guy delivering it.
I didn't have to pay any import tax (It was sent by CP as software not a book) or any VAT on top.
Now that's a nice present from the Tax -man.

tez12 ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 4:15 AM

They cant charge no more than 17.5% so it would work out £15 for vat plusRoyal mail postage I rekon about £10.  £25 not very nice to have to pay out though when your shot on cash.

tez12 ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 4:17 AM

Thats great to hear Shadowdancer.  Where abouts in the UK are you, and how much did parcle force charge you for delivering it?

tez12 ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 4:19 AM

Waheee! just got it from parcle force about 30 seconds ago, same no extra charges, im amazed.

Shadowdancer ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 4:20 AM · edited Sat, 23 December 2006 at 4:22 AM

I wasn't charged anything by Parcelforce.

tez12 ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 8:39 AM

Now without putting a downer on things its still posible is it not that a VAT and parcle force bill can come through the post?

raven ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 9:57 AM · edited Sat, 23 December 2006 at 10:05 AM
