Subject: Is JamesG2 really better than JamesP6 ?

Pixara ( ) posted Sat, 23 December 2006 at 11:07 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 2:26 AM

It's been a while since the release of G2 males, although I just got them with the CP Passport.
After some rounds with James G2, I don't find him better than the original James P6, but I'm just getting started with G2, so I'd like to know you guys' opinions.
Is G2 really better?
What are G2's strengths over JamesP6?
Thanks!

I think James from P6 is a classic character - very expresssive and fun to use. THe new ones seem totally bland to me - all of them. (Koji was way better the first time around as well.) I don't really see myuch technical strength difference - but, for me, there is a huge likability diffference.

Yes, seattletim, I agree.

i only liked the original james too!! didn't like G2 james, i just don't see an improvement, but the original is a fun character, the only moan i have with G1 james is his throat goes weird when you try to make him very, very, ...VERY!! old.

Would like to of seen a single G2 figure i think with all the morphs put into one figure, don't really see the point of three base characters, they could of easily been put into one base, i think i would of been more interested in them like that, but as G2 james is a dissapointment i don't see the point of getting the other two!!

He's better if you like to do morphs. The additional geometry makes him fr more useful in that regard.

I got them free as part of the Content Passport membership. The only G2 male I like is Koji, and that's just because of the great face pack Colm Jackson did for him. I just find the G2 men sort of odd looking compared to M3 and David.

have to agree with seattletim. Also got this pack free, but I'm no too happy with the new koji. The G1 version seemed to have more spirit to it! This one is more or less indifferent. The only figure that is vaguely interesting is Kelvin. Again the teeth in all three figures leave a lot to be desired and the shoulder/back area is messed up - even when applying simple poses that require  shoulder/arm bending, it looks rather bad.

Do you use the Bend/front to back blah blah blah or do you use the partial full body morphs to bend them? I've never really looked at the backs of the model  (I had nothing to do with making them, they were before my time with e frontier). I find the parital full body morphs give good bends, at least from the front.

I have to warn that applying poses that were not designed for the new figures can produce VERY unexpected results - e.g. comparing V4 vs. Sydney I found that what I thought was a simple pose, bending the thigh joint back on V4, was translated into twists AND bends on the thigh of Sydney.  If you see ugly bends in the new G2 figures it likely is not the fault of the figure, please check to see that the joints are not unexpectedly twisted or side/sided.
