Subject: Need textrues for G2 characters!!!!!

drifterlee ( ) posted Sat, 30 December 2006 at 11:25 PM · edited Fri, 24 January 2025 at 7:58 PM

Wish the merchants would get busy and make some hi-rez textures for the G2 characters. I have a great Koji one from TamelaJ, but it does not work on the G2 Koji. The textures that come with these characters - Sydney etc., - are not hi-rez. Also some eyes would be nice!

I thought RuntimeDNA did have high res. textures for the G2 males?

I can't find them. Only moprhs!

richabri has one for James G2.

Be patient and I will do some Hi-res textures for the G2 models. I'm almost finished with my V4 texture set and will start on the g2 figures next. :)

Yup, you're right.  That's really odd?  Usually they have high res. textures available pretty lickity split.  And it's not like the G2 males came out last week.  You'd think there would be a fair number available by now.  I wonder what's up with that?

unfortunately merchants here seem to follow the pack like lemmings, rarely venturing outside the mainstream.  Sydney and V4 came out at roughly the same time but by the time all is said and done I bet V4 texture sets will outnumber Sydney's 100-1 or more.

Sad thing is, when the G2 males came out no merchants even bothered to put out anything to even see if there was a market for them.  Between the free give-a-ways and the release of P7 there's got to be over 50,000 Poser users with a least a couple G2 characters and outside of RDNA only one merchant has done a texture set.  Pathetic.  Instead of creating a new market separate from Vicky, the merchants here and elsewhere let G2 starve to death it before they could even have a chance to become something.

mickmca ( ) posted Sun, 31 December 2006 at 6:49 AM

I was also under the impression that TamelaJ had done G2 Male textures at RuntimeDNA. Have you tried posting in the forums or contacting her direct?

M

drifterlee ( ) posted Sun, 31 December 2006 at 10:18 AM

TamelaJ only did one for Koji 1, not the G2 version. It doesn't work on the G2. I got all the G2 males free from CP because I preordered P&. I like them, but the textures are lo-rez.

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sun, 31 December 2006 at 10:31 AM

She did some hot and sweaty things for all of the G2 figures but they don't seem to be at RuntimeDNA anymore. They weren't my thing but I know I saw them. I know she was also doing a freebie thing there too but she seems to have disappeared from the store.

I predict that Sydney is going to end up sitting on the curb while Victoria 4 rides by in her Porsche.  One only has to look at the past CL/EF characters (Casual Woman, Nude Woman, Judy, and Jessie) to predict the future.  Time and time again, our wonderful folks who create Poser, release characters with little support in the way of textures and morphs and hope that the wonderful modders out there will step up to the plate and fill the void.  While our folks at DAZ3D release their charcters (Victoria 1-4, Stephenie, etc) with better textures and better morphs at the same time.  This gives the user a great start on using the character and enjoying it while those that attempt to struggle with the characters that came with the program grow ever more fustrated.  All you have to do is go to the Galleries section and count up the postings of the pictures using CL/EF characters and those done with DAZ characters and you can see the future.  Someday EF is going to learn that in order to get the market share, they are going to have to include more than just a smattering of adjustments to their characters.  EF if you are actually reading these posts, stop dragging the razor across your jugular vein ever time you introduce a new character.  DAZ is going to catch up to you one day in terms of the quality of the program itself and then you too will be sitting on the curb with Sydney while DAZ and all of the Vickies go whizzing by.

Hmm, I think now that EF has come up with these new figures, I'll support them more. I like Sydney so far. Give me a few weeeks and I'll have some textures for the male figures too. :)

That would be great BluEcho!  I'm not too enthused by Sydney or V4 even.  Like we really needed more female figures for Poser?  I'd much rather do images with men. ;-)

I like different characters, but Poser 6 would not let me render more than 2 without crashing, and I have a 3.4 ig pentium with 2 gigs of RAM. I hope Poser 7 will better.

Faery_Light ( ) posted Sun, 31 December 2006 at 2:27 PM

Tonight i'll see what seam guides I have for the G2 guys and start some work on them. I should have V4 set finished up tonight or tomorrow and ready for testing phase. So keep an eye on the boards and I'll let everyone know when I have some textures ready for the fellas. :0)

Quote - I predict ....

A safe prediction, though your reasons are nonsense. If you look at the Sydney body textures that come with P7 (2 @ 4000 x 3500) and compare them with the textures that come with V4 Base (one 512 x 512 "sample"), Syd wins. So, let's compare them with the ones that come with V4 Complete ($40): V4, 6000 x 2000 pixels for a complete skin (12M pixels on three) vs. 4000 * 7000 (14M pixels on two). Vickie comes with more makeup, Syd with more eye colors. I can buy "makeup." Syd wins.  Vickie Pro vs. Syd? Well for $100, finally, Vickie wins. A bit like pitting a guy with a $1000 shotgun against one with a $10 slingshot....

DAZ charges $35, more than a quarter the cost of a P7 upgrade which is available to virtually anyone, for their figure, and the cost quickly climbs past $100 if you want something comparable to the amount of content in Poser. To expect eF to provide a comparable figure AND the software for $130 is truly puddingheaded.

I own both figures, as I did both Jessi and V3, and Judy and V3. I'm prepared for the merchants tp ignore Syd, just like they did Judy. One reason for the lack of support for the figures is eF's lack of support for them. By support I don't mean cranking out "Jessi's summer nylons" but fixing Miki's elbows. Replacing the P6 figures with "G2"s does not constitute a service release, however generous, and many of us are still steaming over eF's decision to not stand by their contractual promise to provide Koji 1.0 Face Room support. That bad taste in their customers' mouths put their credibility and integrity in the negative numbers for at least the attention span of a duck. So Syd will get her clothes from PhilC's indispensible WW, and I'll learn enough about shaders to make do with the textures I can find.

But I'm also hopeful that I will see the same support (or better) that I saw for Jessi, which is to say lots of stuff at RDNA and PoserPros, little at Victorosity (everyone's favorite Jello-core porn site), and none at DAZ (a personal promise, by Heck). And maybe a lovely fluke will come along, like AprilYSH's excellent texture for Judy, Jocosa. Meantime, it's Vickie's party because her daddy owns the caterer. It would be well to keep in mind that at DAZ, Vickie is the flashlight. The batteries are the MFD for the Millennium Cube, Vickie's smart-propped cucumber, etc. Of course there's more support for Vickie; she has an entire company devoted to her golden eggs.

Damn, I hate it when that happens. Not only has she disappeared, but the two forum threads about the free textures dwindle away into querulous member voices murmuring, "Hello? RDNA guys? Anybody there?"

It smells bad.

PS to admins: Please excuse me if "damn" is Ok. My mom just hated it.

BluEcho:
I haven't looked (put in 9 hours of work today, so I'm feeling lazy), but can't all G2 figures share textures? If so, making them would be surefire, since the buyer gets 5 (and more, if eF doesn't renege on the female G2 promises) for the price of one. I'll take a look tomorrow, when my brain is rested a bit.

Since Sydney is compatible with the face room, you can always load up photos from www.3d.sk, or similar.   I've only just started playing with that, because most of the previous face room candidates haven't interested me all that much.   I do like Miki, but the the face room has been a bit buggy for her, and I don't know why TY2 remains unknown to the face room, when Dimension 3D and Colm have excellent morph sets out for her (I do know the history behind it - it's the logic that escapes me).   I'm starting to like the face room, thanks to Sydney.   Her nostrils aren't ending up to the far north-west of her eyes, any more (well, not all that often).

I definitely agree with Drifterlee's sentiment, though.   If there's nothing on sale for Sydney, then it's hardly surprising that nobody's buying anything.   It would be a great shame if that became an excuse for allowing the character as a whole to be obliterated by the V4 juggernaut.   V4 isn't bad, but she isn't good enough to win the war by default - and there is no reason, anyway, why this market can't support several female characters simultaneously, if only they all receive support.   Miki and TY2 seem to be holding their own, but Sydney is in a different niche.

I do hope everything is OK with **Tamela J. .   I did notice that she changed her username slightly and her Renderosity store is still functioning.   She is one of the most talented Poser artists/vendors out there and a very kind individual.

Ooops..... nearly forgot :

A Very Happy New Year to you all!

Faery_Light ( ) posted Sun, 31 December 2006 at 8:18 PM

mickmca, I'll check that out by using my Sydney template and see if it works on the males too (well, except for the dangly bits g). If it does, I'm in business! So, what sort of textures is everyone interested in? Give me some ideas and let me see what I can do with them. :) Gonna finish catching up on the ebots, then i'll give it a whirl on some texture making.

I'd be very interested in South-East Asian and Central American textures, but Sydney looks so versatile to me that any authentic texture would be worthwhile - and so would fantastic textures.

Okay, I just browsed the CP /*forum and found the G2 male templates. The link that leads to the download for them is here... http://www.contentparadise.com/forums/contentparadise/index.php?showtopic=2418` Now I'm in business1 BTW: I have an almost finished texture for Sydney that I started last week. Got busy and forgot I had it...sigh. So I'll finish it as well. I think I'm gonna need some help on promos though when the sets are done. Whew!

There is not much support for TY2 compared to Miki. It's interesting how some characters take off and others don't.

That link says it's exclusively for Passport members, but you never know with CP. A quick glance at the G2 Male textures and they are definitely not the same as Syd's. My impression -- pray I'm wrong -- was that they were not the same as Simon's either! They are marked "preview," so I'll reserve judgement. I use Apollo and Don for my males anyway.

I'd be interested in a Birkitta-style texture for Syd, though I'm sure that is a miniscule minority view. And anything that gets American Indian/Chicano skin tones right. La Cubana is my favorite V3, followed closely by CWShorty's Tamsen.

Have you tried "Naughty by Nature"? I found these to be the best textures for James G2 so far...
