Subject: Graphic Card help

I'm upgrading my computer, but don't have a large budget. The motherboard I got has an onboard GeForce 6 class video card,, but you cant plug in dual monitors. I use a second monitor to use for my poser canvas. I was looking at the GeForce 6200TC, which is a low end card, and wondered how good would it  be to run the second monitor off of, or should I just run out and buy an old PCI card?

Most Mobo's even with on board graphics have a spare slot for another card, does your Mobo have a AGP or PCI Express slot by any chance?

Oh yeah, PCIex. But  in order  to use 2 monitors, I'm going to have to have a graphics card for each one. (The mobo, plus the PCIex) The second monitor is where the preiview/rendering window's going to be drawn, and I don't want to get something that won't do the job.

check carefully about using the mobo video with a second card . Some systems dont support the on-board video with a second card in place .

The mobo manual says it does.

Does the mobo have a VGA connector or DVI? Sometimes you can buy a splitter and plug 2 displays into a single DVI port. of course, the splitter goes for about $30 which is what the GeForce 6200TC is going for on ebay, so it's really kind of moot.

I'd just say match the vid card to the chipset on your mobo as closely as possible to avoid problems. As long as they're from the same manufacturer you should be OK.
