Subject: I need a tutorial on texture and skin making for Poser 6....

Does anyone know where I can find a good tutorial for making textures and skins for Poser 6 or Daz 3D?? I have searched the internet and through Renderosity and I have had no luck. I really would like one with images to show me specifically what to do step by step. I have tried and it didn't turn out so well. I am sorta new to rendering and would like to create my own skins and clothing for different characters. I would really appreciate it if someone would help~ :)
PS I did try one tutorial from here, the only one I found, it was confusing.....BTW, I did download the seams off the freestuff page.

Making realistic skin textures requires three things:

A good 2d app that lets you work in layers - my preference is Photoshop

Good stock photos - most of us belong to Peter Levius' site, www.3d.sk, which has some free downloads but most of the good photos are in the pay area.

A lot of patience and willingness to take the time to learn how to do it.

For tutorials, I recommend the one by btsculptor on how to create photorealistic skins for the Unimesh characters.  It's well laid out but assumes you have a working knowledge of your graphics program.

Other than that, it's just work, work, work.  My skin textures can take a month or so to finish.

Thanks Victoria Lee!! I am willing to work, work, work on this! I would like to get to vendor status on Renderosity. I have Poser 6 and Daz Studio along with PS7.  I have created some skins, but the skin textures just do not match up when I apply them. I tried to figure out what I did wrong, but need some help. I used the body maps to do it instead of the templates. I know I could do better with the templates if I could just learn to do it. I also don't understand what format I need to save the skins as to use them. Once I save what do I do? I know I may sound really stupid about this, but I am  a newbie!! LOL All help is appreciated..... Thanks!

Use the templates to create your skin and, definitely, follow btsculptor's tutorial.  He uses PS 5.5 in the tut so you should be able to follow using PS7.  I use PC CS2 and will be upgrading to CS3 as soon as it's released.

While you're creating a skin texture, save it as a .psd file which will preserve the layers.  My skin textures, while I'm working on them, have been known to have as many as 100 layers at any one time, each with a separate piece of the entire picture.  Poser accepts .psd files as valid texture files so I keep both Poser and Photoshop open at the same time and can see my changes as they happen with a quick render.

The hardest part of making photorealistic textures is getting the seams to match or disappear.  The easiest way to do this is to expand your work layer using the magic wand tool.  I take mine out another 10 pixels and then create a base layer in a color similar to the color of the texture I'm making.  This also helps with seams.  I hide the base layer when I'm working but unhide it to save the psd file and do a test render.  All if this is what I learned from working the tutorial a couple of times so I know this tut works.

k, I checked out the link... I can tell you definitely know what you are doing! A few questions........

Is that PS you are using? How do I get the template there? I can't seem to get it to open up in PS7. I downloaded UV mapper, but I dont understand how to start with it. I tried to open the template on UV mapper, but it isnt that simple. With the Image, to me it looks like you copy and paste. Is that correct? Thanks for the help! Any advice you can type up for me on here? I love the pics, if you could just brief me on what you did that would be a big help. Thanks Franz!! Remember I am totally a newby at this! LOL

step by step about your template. After saving you can load the textures in Poser.

Lots of texturing links in that thread.
