Subject: V4 + Poser Problems

TDBerry ( ) posted Sat, 06 January 2007 at 3:12 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 2:58 AM

I was attempting to use some Firbirdz V4 poses in P7 and discovered I was unable to reopen the file. I tried creating a new one in P6 and it would reopen but there would be nothing. The PZ3 will import just fine into D|S. I understand this probably has something to do with how V4 now uses magnets but I'm unsure how to handle it.

My main problem though is I am finding that the cloth room works fine with V4 but I'm unable to reopen a saved file after using it. Unless I can figure this cloth room thing out V4 is going to be of limited use Poser 6 or 7. Is anyone else having these problems?

Yup, does it to me too. V4 freaks out the cloth room. Make sure you report this to DAZ and EF. They need to get an ear full on this one.

P.S. If you turn PMD's off the scenes will save in a state that cam be re-opened.

I'm reading this and watching frame 0 dislocate a dynamic cloth object visually from the character. The whole cloth room thing in P7 seems out of control. I will spend 8 hours out of action ( yes it's become that slow) and will probabaly abend the app before it completes the sim.  The ridiculous thing is that some sims end up 'right' at completion but the visual progress is all off.

I will report again.

I've had various problems with P7 cloth room as well, and I recall EF acknowledged at least one bug that involved hitting the Cancel button to interrupt a simulation (makes textures go nuts).

Thanks Nurd 3D! Turning off PMD (I didn't realize I could before) seems to have solved my problems. I can even open cloth room stuff without problems. Evedently PMD and V4 don't play well together.

I too cannot reopen Victoria 4 in Poser 6.  She also crashes Vue 5.  Has anyone heard about a service release yet?

From http://www.e-frontier.com/article/articleview/1600/1/582/
*Poser 6 uses a new file format, PMD, to store its external binary morph information. PMD files should be placed into the same directory as the CR2/CRZ files that they supplement. These files are not compatible with earlier versions of Poser, and figures that use PMD files will not display all of their available morphs in other applications.

*There are some bugs that appear in Poser when using Binary Morph Targets (PMDs) with V4 (possibly other figuers, I don't know, but certainly with V4).  By default, when you install Poser 7, "Use Binary Morph Targets" is turned on in Edit->Preferences->Misc tab.  Drill to there, uncheck and hit OK.  For ordinary use of Poser you likely won't notice much difference (I don't).  You need PMD files in order to create separate morph targets that you can give to another person (e.g. I wanted to give someone a no-ears morph, that's part of the process).

When you say "reopen" do you mean literally, re-open a scene that was saved with V4 in it?  Or are you able to create a new scene, load a default V4?  The times I have had this bug happen, the .pz3 file has become unreadable by Poser and makes it crash every time, I ended up just redesigning the scene.  I hadn't heard of any fixes from either EF or DAZ.

That's right. A saved scene can not be re-opened. To turn off PMD's open Edit > Preferences on the Misc tab uncheck "Use External Binary Morphs"

Scenes will save and load slower and take more space BUT at least they will re-open.

Also if you have a scene that is fried this way go find the PMD file and delete (or better yet rename it) the scene will open with no morphs. Now you can save the poses for your figures that will make recreating the scene much easier.

Be sure to exit and restart Poser after recovering a scene this way. We don't know what is causing the corruption and you may accidentally save the newly created scene in a broken state.

In my system, V4 hair and clothing props, as well as her jaw-teeth parts, lose their parenting now and then, and they lose it every SINGLE time I do a sim and Point-At is activated for her eyes.  The issue pops up in P6 as well as P7 (though more frequently in P7) so I have tossed her into cold storage for now.

I've also tossed P7 aside for now since this parenting loss actually occurs with some of the older V2 characters I've gone back to using.

There were many things I liked about both V4 and P7 but I've abandoned them, at least for now.
