Kenno, from one brycer user to a new bryce user, if you can upgrade to bryce 5.5 from 5 then do so but DO NOT go for bryce 6. I have been around many forums where people are posting things like it crashes, it freezes up or the render times take longer..
As for Vue, i have only just started messing around with it and in my honest opinion upgrade it to Vue 6, its well spent money.
@The Bryster, before you say it old cobber, we all have to try other things out and i still have bryce 4, 5, 5.5, 6..bryce 5.5 i still use, infact i'm looking at doing something in it tonight for fun..
I have opinions of my own -- strong
opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.
I would be intrested to see the responses. I know what both apps are capable of, and I like them both(I only have Bryce, but read alot about Vue). I just think Bryce is a snap when making terrains and doings simple, sometimes complex, scenes. I wonder what the Network and render times between them are? I think Vue has Bryce beat in features, and I read both have their issues, but I will stick with Bryce for now(especialy since there are updates coming, and Vista).
As I have never used that particular (and heretical) app I cannot comment. However, I will say that one of my missions in life is to get rid of the idea that Bryce in any form is just a landscaper.
I would suggest that Kenmo takes a wander through a few Brycers galleries before making his decision.
As for B6 crashing, I've had a couple of minor crashes but no freezes and as far as I can tell the render times are quicker, but not by much.

I'd say check the showreel for Vue6 Infinite and see for yourself ;-) Aint no way one can do all of THAT in bryce! Ok, much of it can be, but those atmospheres, the ecosystems, the photoshop style material layering, full displacement support... u aint got those in bryce.
However, bryce IS much cheaper.

Theres several types of erosion tools in vue from what i've read. Dunno if their terrain editor is better then bryce's. However they do give u the ability to create procedurally generated terrains of extremely high detail.

Hi...
I've owned Vue Esprit since version 4. I presently have Vue Esprit ver 5 and was thinking about upgrading to Vue Esprit 6. I'm sure a Bryce vs Vue thread has been posted here many times, but could someone who uses both tell me how they (Bryce 6 vs Vue 5 or 6) compare? Their strengths and weaknesses...
DAZ has a really attractive upgrade offer for owners of Bryce ver 5 & 5.5.... I just got 5.0 today on a DIGIT magazine cover CD-ROM and included is a $10.00 off the upgrade to 6.0.... Meaning for $39.95 minus $10.00 coupon I can get Bryce 6 for $29.95...
Again, my intent is not to start a Bryce vs Vue bashing thread. I'm only interested honest comments from the people who's opinion who really matter to me the most. The fine and friendly crowd at Renderosity...
Happy New Year
Ken
PS: I'll be posting a duplicate thread to the Vue forum if the mods here don't mind...
