Subject: Attachting Props to Figures

I have a prop horn i have on a figures head and i have it right where i want ti but whenever i move the head the prop stays where it is..how do i attach the prop to the head

Select the hat -> Object Menu -> Set Parent -> (soandso's head)
edit: or horn or tiara or whateverthehell

ok wait edit..they r figure horns..but the dont conform to the hed so i am just placing them where i wont them fow do i stick a figure to figure

i am using the creature creation pack well there r two horn per figure so when i set parent for one of the horns it stays but when i move the right collar to test it the other horn moves with it..see i have horns on the collars of my character..

Okay, if they are Figures then it's Figure Menu -> Set Figure Parent, presumably to the head.  When you said "prop" that kind of threw me.  Perhaps you should check your documentation.

i did figure set figure parent and selected the right collar thats where thre horn is but when i do tat the horn on the right colar parents perfectly but when i move the right collar the horn on the left colar moves with it

Then I would try pjz's initial solution of object/change parent etc. etc. and pick the figure's head.

Which figure are you using?

EDIT: I think I actually  have that item. Let me check my M3 runtime and if I have I'll try and see what the problem is.

i am doing it on the curved horns in the creature creation pak

I finally managed to find it. I have it saved in my props runtime.

I tried the curved horns and it works fine.

I loaded Michael 3, then the curved horns. I then made sure the horns body was the active one and went to Figure / Set Parent and picked "Figure 1 - Head". And when I posed Michael the horns moved with him.

hmm...maybe its cuase i parentsed only one of the horns first it messed it up entirely..i also have horns on the chin and i parents them to the head and they fly up to the middle of the head

I don't think you can parent 2 things to the head. So that's probably why one set of horns isn't working for you. Just like you can't parent 2 objects to one hand.

If you put the horns on the head then go to Figure / Set parent and picked the figure's head, the horns will stay on.  The others I think you will have to manipulate into position for each render and just  leave them unparented.

yea cuase its hard when they r on two diff parts of the figure aka left collar and right collar...but i dont know why the chin horns r flying up they r one figure and on the head..but i have like 10 horns on the head

The chin horns are flying up to the middle of the head because you are parenting them to the head.

Let me open Poser up and see if I can find a solution for you.

Sorry. I could only get one set of horns to parent to the head.  Unless someone else knows of a solution to parent more than one prop to a body part, it seems like you will only be able to parent one set and then have to manipulate the others into place and just leave them unparented while you render.

You can try an old trick--parent the second set to the first.  You can parent everything in a scene to one character that way.  Move one and they all move, like Xmas lights.  When one goes out, they all go out. :lol:

Pretty sure you can parent any number of things to any particular thing in the hierarchy window (e.g. 5 finger joints are parented to each hand).

i solved..i did wat joelglaine said and i did that to the head and it worked..but it didnt for the collars..so i made exported one of each of the horns as a .obj and imported it into poser as a prop then i put a primative ball in both collars and parented all my horns to that..and it works perfectly

I have a question sort of on the subject.  Every once in a while I put together a figure with a prop that I want to mirror on the other side (ex., shoulder pad or horn), but I don't know how to position it strictly.  I'm always forced to approximate by eye.  Any way to figure out how to mirror a prop bilaterally so it's exactly where it's supposed to be?

Answer: As long as the figure is "zeroed" (IE, centered in Poser space with X and Z = 0), and is in a default (symetrical) position then it's easy...

Load and position one prop. Don't parent it yet. With the cursor in the Parameters dials (best to click on a blank space there to make sure it's selected), select Menu->Copy (short-cut is usually ctrl+C in Windows). This will copy the complete set of the dials.
Load 2nd prop. "Select" the parameter dials for the 2nd prop and Menu->Paste (ctrl+V), which will place the 2nd prop in the identical position to the 1st.  Go through the dials and add or delete any relevant "-" signs for position/rotation. So if, for instance you wanted to put a cube/box on both shoulders of a figure, you could load and position cube 1, copy the dials, load cube 2, paste the dials into cube 2 then change the X-trans to the opposite side (if it already has a minus sign delete it, if it doesn't add one),

THEN parent both props to the relevant parts..

 Hope that makes sense..
