Subject: Unable to open saved V4 files

helgas ( ) posted Tue, 09 January 2007 at 4:54 PM · edited Fri, 07 February 2025 at 4:34 PM

Since I installed the V4 ProPack strange things are happening. If I save an incomplete V4 file and try to work on it later the following happens:

  1. Hourglass is busy and finally the curser comes back. Screen is blank not even a frame. When I try to open a new file I am asked if the open file should be saved. The question is, where could this file be viewed, other then the screen in front of me?

  2. If I have to use V4 I must complete the project without saving it. As long as the file is open everything functions great. Renders are perfect. But this is where it ends. Once saved it cannot be reopened.
I deleted the Poser.ini and the .xml files. I set Render cache to 1 instead of 10. Nothing.

I have also noticed that saved V3 files open with difficulty. I never had this problem before. Also started with the addition of V4.

Does anybody else experience these blank screens? Any idea what might be the cause of it?
I have read through the other threads but nothing really fits my problem.

I am working with WIN2000 and not XP.
CPU 3GHZ Pentium 4
RAM 1GB
HD 250GB
Intel Extreme Graphic2 Controller on Motherboard. 3MG per minute.

Hope you can help me!
Regards
Helga

turn off save external binary morphs in your poser prefrences and you should be able to save V4 fine, it seems that for some reason V4 and EBMs dont work well together.

I'm not sure but afaik only Poser7 has the option to save external binary morphs doesn't it? or is it available in earlier versions as well?

Poser 6 is when external binary morphs were added.

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.

I was just wondering cause the OP never mentioned which version of poser they're using, unless I missed a post from helgas before mentioning which version they have.

Doesn't matter whether it's P6 or P7 being used, without an update, V4 won't work with binary morphs.

Both really.
DAZ are the ones who need to fix V4.
EF needs to add some code so that Poser copes more gracefully with this situation.

Well something else to think about when deciding whether to get either Poser7 or V4, it's nice to know these things in advance.

I have P6 & P7 any V4 files i save will not open now at all, it just crashes my P6 & P7, what a waste of money if you cannot save the character or scene, I have no idea about the binary morphs and recon i should not need to?? , every thing else works fine V3 whatever, also Im unable to load anything from my P6  folder onto P7 even if all the characters and morphs are loaded in it ?

Is anyone else really fed up with all this P7 and V4 stuff because no matter how hard i try to like them they do absolutely nothing for me at all, the head on V4 is ridiculous and looks terrible no matter how may morphs or character you try. And P7 well i think its no better for me that P6 in fact I recon from both of them being out I have spent about $1000+on both products and with all the above Im getting really think we have been had.

I have never been able to use anything with th binary morphs option on so I am not sure why people could use V3. I know the morphs on a CR2 died whenever I tried to use it in 6.

Not anymore.
The cause of the problem is now known, there is a workaround (posted to the many threads that have been started), so it's up to DAZ to incorporate the necessary changes in an SR.
Very few people actually use the binary morphs as few other programs will deal with them (even ones that use the P6 SDK), so it's having the most affect on people just starting out with P7 and V4.

Hi,
I forgot to mention that I am using P6. I will not go for P7 after reading through the different threads.
I turned binary off, trashed the .pmd and lost all morphs like all the rest of you. I assume that we are Beta testing V4. I am not willing to Beta test P7, especially after P6 never got fixed.

It dies at least 10 times a day. When I hit render and the "texture not found" panel appears, I know it is the end. Reboot again. Why, oh why can this not be fixed. How hard can it be to make it locate a texture and why can it not find it in the first place? We have SR3 and nothing has realy changed for the better.

As for V4. It takes a lot of time to get used to her. So little good content is available. Most of the skins and MUs are very poor and very expensive. Genesis has fish eyes. Using her with dark eye colors improves her appearance. Lighting is equally important. Many of the HiRes skins are overemphasized and too glossy. I am slowly getting better results. Glad I can open the files again.

Thank you very much for all the input and lets hope that V4 and P7 will get fixed eventually.

Sincerely,
Helga
