We just had a power outtage for a few seconds while I was using the computer.  I rebooted, opened up Mozilla Firefox (latest version) and ALL of my bookmarks are gone.  Holy crap...I had hundreds that I've collected over the last few years.  Is there any way to get them back????

That's happened to me a couple of times with Firefox! I don't know why. I couldn't get them back the first time either.  The second time I was lucky enough that I had saved a copy of my bookmarks .htm file so managed to get most of them back.

Change your settings to view hidden files.  Then go to your profile and find Application Data.  Look for Mozilla  and look inside. See if there is a backup of your bookmarks .htm file.  Mine seem to back themselves up.  If you have a backup in there, change the name to  bookmarks.htm  and put it into the main Mozilla folder and your bookmarks should be back.

Can you tell me where to find the View Hidden Files and my Profile please?  I looked around a bit but can't find them.  I've never done much with Firefox except add and manage bookmarks...

Folder Options
View
Select "show hidden files and folders"
Apply
OK

Then go to:

C Drive
Documents and Settings
Click the folder for your profile.  I call mine "Linda"
Open "Application Data"  (it is a faded out folder because it was a hidden one)
Open Mozilla
Open Firefox
Open Profiles
Open the next folder
You have now arrived where your bookmarks.html file should be. 

If you have a bookmarks.html file in there, double click it and see what shows when it opens. If your bookmarks are gone it will show only the default ones that came with mozilla.

Look for a folder called "Backups"  or "Bookmark Backups".  If you have one of those, you should find backed up copies of your bookmarks.html file from prior days.  If you don't have something like that, then your bookmarks are really gone  unless you happened to have saved the .html file to a CD.   After I lost my bookmarks to that weird bug, I now go once a month and save the bookmarks.html file just in case.

Oh yes. When you're done. Go back to Folder Options and change the setting back to "hide hidden files and folders" again.  You really don't want them showing just in case you get delete file/folder happy and accidently delete something you shouldn't  :)

The bookmarks.html file was blank, but the one in the bookmarkbackups folder has them all.  PHEW!!!  I was about to have a heart attack just thinking about everything I might have lost, especially all my Poser freebie sites.  LOL!

My Outlook.pst and Firefox bookmarks (and other data files) are things that I backup on a regular basis.  Please do the same! :)  The first file is found in "C:Documents and Settings[User]Local SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftOutlook" if you're using Outlook.  The Firefox files location has already been given.  I have thousands of bookmarks and thousands of emails from nearly ten years - no way I'm going to start collecting them from scratch!

Also, if you want to avoid losing all of your Outlook contacts, go to Contacts, select File->Import and Export.  Then select "Export to a file".  Select a relevant format (I use "Comma Separated Values (DOS)".  Follow through.  Now you have a backup-backup just in case Outlook divebombs, your harddrive head crashes, or a virus plays 'wipe the disk'.

Oh yes!  I do backup my Outlook Express folders as well as my address book. I just did that a couple of days ago actually. 

When I save my Outlook Express folders I do the following:

• show my hidden files,
• go to "Documents and Settings". Find my profile,
• click on "Local Settings",
• click "Identities"
• click the next folder with the long string of numbers/letters
• save the Microsoft folder

After an install I just copy / paste it back.

When I save my Outlook Express address book, I do the following:

• do the above  to get to your profile
• click "Application Data"
• click "Microsoft"
• click "Address Book"
• Save all files from in there

After a reinstall just copy / paste it back. No need to get confused with the import / export stuff.

I'm just paranoid (or A-retentive) and have all my bookmarks in an Access database..;) Can't hurt..;)

Get Mozbackup and back your profile up periodically to prevent this happening again.

and so now was able to get my bookmarks back too.

Oh my gosh, glad you got them all back..I too have hundreds and back mine up all the time..plus I have them in a .txt file on another drive just in case...
