Well, I just got an e-mail back from Danie about future V3 support. She says she is not sure if they will ever do another V3, but mentioned that V4 has a "V4 to V3" (*problem, it still looks like V4) conversion. So there goes "some" of the reason to buy those great DM paks (maybe). Aery Soul says they will no longer ever do V3. That's two mega merchants.
Vendors it isn't the clothes fit as much as it is the dull look of V4 that has put me off. Yeah she is a pain to work with, and yeah she looks like a standing sausage. But the big thing is she does not really have a lot of range or variety in her looks. You can spot a V4, even easier than you can a V3.   I know everyone says "Wait, she'll get better!" I don't think so. I have seen the characters created so far (by some of my very favorite vendors!), and she still looks postal in each one. My husband hit it right on the mark, he said she is just plain insipid looking.
I am not trying to beat a dead horse, but it looks like she is definetly here to stay, and since I don't like her, and I'm not real crazy about A3's size or style, I don't see what products will be comming out that I will be buying in the forseeable future.  I was growing to love doing poser....now it feels like I have been cut off at the knees. Change is good, except in this particular case.
So I still have some wishlist V3 items I will be buying up. But I am not sure about the future and what it may hold. I only wanted to have this say because I think in the long run, she won't be as beautiful as V3...at least from where I have seen the current trend. I may be wrong. But until it looks like she is worth having and the bugs are worked out, I can't see why to waste money on her, and her support products. But I don't blame the Vendors at all! I blame Daz for making her so blah looking, unappealing, and from what I've heard difficult to work with. It may have helped if clothes were able to cross over. But you know honestly, I wouldn't have used her then either.
So lastly, here is my plea. Vendors, please don't abandon V3. Some of the most beautiful characters I have ever seen are V3. I have always purchased from a large variety of vendors...especially exciting and unusual characters, or outfits. Remember the few who still love V3, and keep creating those outstanding things for Us too! Or not,  because this is just my opinion.

I use V4 and she's a very good model

But V4 didn't killed my V3, V2, Posette and the rest, and I continue using them. There's still a lot of V3 stuff. And V2, Posette...

I must agree with you DesertGoddess - I could not understand all the fuss when she came out. I have yet to see a render where she doesn't look like some plastic doll, yet I have see great
renders of V3 many a time. I will continue to work with V3 until I see a major improvement to the way V4 looks. Definately not worth the money methinks. NIce to see someone else not jumping on the bandwagon!:)

I have her but haven't yet used her in an image and I've had her about 3 weeks now so it's pretty bad that I haven't used her yet.
It's not because I don't like her, it's because there's no bloody decent clothes for her yet [LOL], then again I don't know what she's like to work with 'cos I haven't bothered!

Look at i this way Ariana, your favourite vendors might not make any NEW stuff for V3 but there's still loads of product out there for her that you'll be able to get!

I agree on V3 looking better than V4, but there are so many products already available for her I don't see it being a problem to continue using the older version.  I doubt sellers will suddenly pull all their V3 products as I'm sure there will be many more sales for her for a long time to come. 

I still on the odd occasion, use V2 - just cuz they're old doesn't mean you stop using them :-)

I wanted to add one other thing. You know how there is this contrversy about how A3 looks like a young girl? Well there are a few new products that look just like my 15 year old niece's body! Now that is scary.

I don't use the female figures much but hey, V4 is open-spaces commercial territory, while the V3 market segment is a little crowded already.  It does make some commercial sense to push out new products for the V4 market.

I've used a lot my V4 since her release, over all for my galleries at Renderotica. Rotica doesn't allows childhood nudity (they are absolutely stricted in that) and I had no troubles with any V4 pic. Looks like a young girl? I don't think it, and they neither

This is the classic controversy. Each new model has her NEWMODELFANS and NEWMODELKILLERS, her philias and her phobias. V4 improve troubles of V3 in arms, shouders, hips and legs. Perfect? Nah. Better? Yeah. But purchasing V4 no one obly you to forget your V3

I don't know what will happen with Victoria 3 and 4, they are still fighting. Tonight there will be another round.

I remember very similar comments when V3 came out.  If V4 proves to be difficult to work with and unrealistic she won't sell as well and vendors will go where the biggest market is.  If not, she'll be the new 'biggest thing' until V5? comes out.

V4 is not an option for anyone with P5 or below so I will be sticking with V3 and Judy for female figures . 

V4 looks good but bend her legs in Poser 5 and her butt implodes, not a pretty sight.

ah Poser that's what it's all about. I think, if any admins are paying attention, it would be a good idea to create a Poser forum where people, who have similar interests, could discuss such matters.

Lets just say that for a company based in the religiously-uptight state of Utah, they seem to have no compunction about flirting with the gray area around intellectual property theft.  There have been threads a mile long about this in the Poser forums... I'd look one up.

It's not uncommon for stuff like this to happen in Mormon country. I've been there and have seen alot of the shenagins that go on. Pretty discouraging for such a nice place otherwise.

I don't mean this as an attack on all mormons the world over, whatsoever because I realize there are many many mormons, and many of them are up and up.

But litterally everytime I've ever gotten screwed over in my life, nine times out of ten, a mormon had something to do with it.

A year from now there will be so much stuff available for V4 and so many new things made taking advantage of the model's capabilities, everyone complaining about it now will look back and wonder what they were thinking.

The "problem" with V4 is that it's new and different, and unfamiliar; the vast majority of Poserites and marketplace addicts expect immediate results, 'cause they're used to someone or other creating the latest Greatest Newest Shiniest Mega-Pack-Including  Lights, Wardobe, Poses, et al....

It will happen eventually that all of the anti-V4 crowd will be converted once everyone's favorite merchants have created the things to make her more V3-like to them....

Of course, there are all kinds of 2D and 3D tools available out there, many of which are free, which might inspire some to work out their needs on their own...but.....

...quick fix, microwave popcorn, instant oatmeal society...

Actually no MikeJ, it is that she is ugly and looks the same no matter what merchant tweaks and bends her. But the good news is I went out and bought a camera! After the V4 release and the poser7 disappointment. I'm going to go back to photography! That is when I am not playing with V3 in poser6! Get out the warm milk!

Well, OK, if you say so. I assume you've already come to the conclusion that development of V4 is pretty much over with?
You do realize, of course, that it's just a collection of polygons which can be rearranged easily enough, making for a whole sh*tload of possibilities. Right?
Speaking of tweaking and bending, it's that stuff which is the strong point of V4, IMO. That and the reduced poly count compared to V3...and the more intelligent arrangement of said polys....
And the UV mapping is really good, too, much better than V3 and.... never mind.

I love V4!  I can't get enough content for her!  I think the base V4 is a vast improvement over the base V3.  She's far less man-ish, has a more realistic natural shape and her joins are lightyears better than V3.  Do you guys think she looks so bad in these?

That said i don't want to see support for V3 discontinued from vendors.  I've got 5 very lovely ladies of color that I use in my galleries, all built upon V3.  Their unique faces cannot be recreated on V4 by use of the morph dials, and that will prevent me from moving to V4 entirely for a very, very long time.

Everytime it is a V4, You know it is...she does not have a versetal  looking face (*or body) and that just jumps out at you. And I stand on the "Sausage Shaped Body" comment (*and forgot to mention those horrendous hands and nails!).

I wanted to add a little Humor in here tho!
I recently looked at the new AS "Alice" made with V4, well right before the big V4 release, I bought Kielo, after thinking and waiting a long time. LOL! Alice is Kielo! Swear they are one and the same...just a different mesh which requires you to buy extra clothes! No fit updates for even the most recent AS product for V3...Eclipse! So I am definetely not supporting it(*V4).

But Giolon as always your work is Faultless!

Ha ha DGD, I certainly appreciate the compliments (thank you!), but it's really not the goal I wanted to get at by linking.  I should have worded my thoughts better.  Basically it's this:  If you were not informed that those images are V4, would they jump out at you as "EW V4!  Yuck!"?  If you ask me, I don't think she looks much like the default V4 at all.

While I do like V4 overall better than V3 that doesn't mean I htink she's perfect.  For example, here eyes are HUGE.  It was very tough for those images to make them smaller w/o making them look funny.  I didn't find it too hard though to take her face in a very "un-V4" direction.  I found it much easier than V3, where, for example, no matter what dials you use, you can't  really change the width of the mandible/rear jaw area.  Another complaint I have about V4 is her hip area.  When you try to give her some curves, her hips take on a very funny shape like greater/less than characters ( < > ).  They're not rounded at all.

As for being able to pick out V4 instantly, I can say the same thing about Jessi, James, Miko, V3 and Aiko, no matter how customized the faces are.

I thought the same thing about Alice too.  While I love AS's clothes and hair, I've never been a fan of their waifish characters.  Knowing that they're moving on solely to V4/Alice, does not leave me with a good feeling for all my existing girls. 

The texture on the dress is good. I think when it comes to models I still prefer the Gods Adam 1 and Eve 1. Al of these V's look like plastic dolls. Quite expensive plastic dolls :)

I think MikeJ has a point, as time goes on they'll be more options for V4. I didn't pick up V3 myself until the end of 2005 and by then pretty much everything was V3. As for V4, for the time being i've managed to shape her using some old and some custom magnets, with some decent results.

You work the clay long enough and eventually you'll get something worthy of the kiln. Or, just wait for someone willing to do it for you at a reaosnable price.

I have to agree with the first comment by DesertGoddessDesigns, I'm not overly impressed with what I've seen of V4 and although I'v thought about buying her odds are I won't. While I have seen some good morphs for her she still appears flat and lifeless compared to the capabilities of V3, the one thing she does have going for her is the start of an awesome wardrobe.. I'm sorry to hear that 2 of the top vendors will no longer be supporting V3 and sincerley hope that not too many others will follow their lead

I like V4, but I also like all the other Vickies. There should be support for all of them.

It was exactly the same thing with V2 characters and V3, was it not? Each new iteration of a figure requires new fiddling with morphs if one wants to recreate a character for an older figure.

Personally, despite V4 coming with fewer morphs than V3, I think the new Vicky is much better than the old, especially in regards to some bending (no bump in the thighs anymore, despite other issues), and the muscularity morphs (see attached pic).

And everyone had best get used to V4, because I doubt she's going anywhere, and before long you'll see the same ratio of V4 to V3 products as you saw in V3 to V2, with V3 sales dropping almost completely around the time DAZ announces V5.

And DessertGoddessDesigns, if you haven't gotten V4, how can you honestly make such broad assumptions as you have? It's like claiming you don't like acupuncture, without knowing much more than that it involves pressing parts of the body or inserting needles into a person.

DAZ does have the 30 day money back deal, so I'd suggest all the V4 detractors buy at least the mesh and morphs, and spend some time playing around with it. Only by doing so can you actually make an informed decision, because many people don't exactly try to morph any character to the point it's origin can't be easily spotted.

I really like the free Mayadoll and her free characters, but you hardly ever see her. She is cuter than Aiko, I think.

Oh, I don't know. I think V4 has a lot of possibilities myself. I think it's just a matter of hitting on the right thing for her. At least for me anyway

Arianna i for one will continue doing products for V3, sp3 and A3.... i'm not entirely all there with V4 at the moment and since she came out i've only released one product for V4 - ..... getting used to her morphs etc......

I know Poser is god around here even though it is responsible for the new thumbnail policy but I still don't understand why threads specifically relating to Poser are in this forum. There is a poser forum. Why was this thread not posted there?
