- Is there any commercial software that comes loaded with at least 500 sound effects? I know some softwares include many music loops but not sound effects.
I have a CD I bought in a retail store a while back, perhaps 4-5 years ago, called something like 6000 clips. It has 6000 sound effects, from explosions to cars and traffic to aircraft and windy/rainy weather stuff like lightning. You can hear some in http://www.thebest3d.com/dogwaffle/art/animations/canyonflight/canyonflight4.mov
I don't recall off the top of my head where that CD product came from but a Google search for 6000 sound clips might reveal it.
You might want to search gamedev resources too. They often have collections to sound effects. Try www.garagegames.com and www.3dgamestudio.com for example

Note that the one I have is from Cosmi, and is called 6000 Sound Effects
http://www.amazon.com/COSMI-6000-Sound-Effects-Windows/dp/B000099SHK
There are others offering similarly named products, and cover CDs on Amazon or eBay may look different from the new one made for Windows XP by Cosmi. Beware of immitaters that are either illegitimate or way pricier. Check the gamedev.net side-by-side review too.
What is your intended use, i.e. what quality and budget are you seeking?
Quote - I'm planning on creating radioplays. My budget is $50 (for purchasing just the sound effects) and I want at least 500 various sound effects.
I looked at the amazon link and it did not have good reviews.
I think for $12 or thereabouts the 6000 sounds effects collection is pretty decent, the sounds are in various formats, and even if only 10% are in your expected quality and usability, you'll have 600 fer sure you like. It's an individual taste though. I though it was great when I was looking for cold wind (blizzard). Had several to choose from.
Check the review at gamedev.net too.
Or expect to pay more in the order of $100 to $250 for high end professional grade material

Hi, I have 3 questions regarding sound effects.
Can anyone recommend a cd or a website to purchase sound effects for commercial use?
I know that 3dworld magazine gives commercial products (mostly 3d models) in their cds on each issue. Is there a magazine that gives sound effects which is licensed for commercial use?
Is there any commercial software that comes loaded with at least 500 sound effects? I know some softwares include many music loops but not sound effects.
I don't really know if this is the correct forum to ask these questions but since animators use sound effects, I'm expecting to get more anwers here than the other renderosity subforums.
