Subject: In Search of Fluffy Angel Wings

AlleyKatArt ( ) posted Tue, 16 January 2007 at 12:04 PM · edited Wed, 18 December 2024 at 3:39 PM

This sounds odd, most likely, but I'm looking for angel wings that are of approximately medium resolution but that actually have some fluff to them. Most of the wings out there are too high res or too flat/stylized for what I need. I need wings that will look decent from most angles and that are at least somewhat posable. The sets I've got just aren't fitting the criteria.

If anyone's curious, it's for some mascot art for an anime convention later this year. I've done art in the past, but the wings always looked artificial, this year I'd like them to look more fitting. Fluffier. >>

What about these?

With these textures:

You can give them a more fluffy look by going over the final render with a softening tool in your graphic program.

The wings were created for an older version of Poser, so you have to use "normals forward" when you use them in Posr 5 and up.  The following thread shows why and how to do that. I think there is also an image in there where I showed what softening can do.

EDIT:

There are also lots of poses for those wings.  You can find them by going to "Market Place" and clicking "Search" and then typing in "Angelyna" into the search products bar.

Good Job Acadia!

Khrys, have you seen or tried these wings yet?  I think they're really the best; they bend in about 18 different spots, and have several pose sets.  Allthough I've heard these are not still available here, the Heaven Sent 1 + 2 pose sets were the only, and then the best, Angelyna add-ons, for a while.

Acadia's third link is'nt exactly correct though.  Although what she says about this figure's Normals is true, and that I do have a thread about that around here somewhere, her third link(Above) is ato thread of mine regarding work with Tiff785's Angelyna Wings Texture(Acadia's second link;) how I used it with the original Angelyna Texture, and where I took my Angelyna Wings Material from there.

If I remember correct, fixing the Normals is really very easy:

1.)  Select the Group Tool.

2.) Drag to select the whole figure(You may need to move the camera a bit)

3.) In the Group Tool Palette select Invert Normals.

Attached is an example of my Angelyna wing material(Make sure you click the picture, the image is actually very large.)

P.S. -  You can see another example(Allbeit not as good) of these wings by clicking on the link in my signature.

I like the Angelyna wings, but they're too long, along the X scale. They seem a bit stretched out, to me.

How about those?

I used them in one of my images

I got the fluffy look by rendering the wings separately after I had the scene all set up. Then I used Dreamsuit Dreamy Photo (Bonus) on the wings and then added the wings to the figure.

Also, if you bought Poser 6 early enough there was a bonus in it called "Winter Queen". It had some wings in it too.

Sadly, the Winter Queen wings would be great, but I didn't pay for it in time. :(

You know, if I shorten the length of the wings vertically a bit, the guardian angel set might just work.

You can turn off wing tips. I can't remember if that makes them any shorter though.

There's a lot of wings out there:
Basically the highest quality, with morphs for different bird/flying types, the ability to fold, and generally easy to morph:
Feathered Wings by etujedi
Textures by RawArt

The more modern wings by Sharkey:
Ultimate Wings
Textures by Arki - check these out before turning down the Ultimate Wings, as I think the promo pics show more potential to be what you want than those of the original product

Smaller, wider wings
Goth Cherub Wings

Another Choice - interesting shape
Mythic Wings

I will say that unfortunately, the nicest, fluffiest wings i've seen in the galleries (at artzone, actually) used the Feathered Wings textures by Arki for the Winter Queen wings. they were basically the main reason i preordered.

kobaltkween ( ) posted Wed, 17 January 2007 at 6:49 PM

whoops! cross post with RawArt.  and let me clarify about nicest wings:  it was the best use of wings i've seen.  i still don't quite know how the artist managed it.  i still think the Feathered Wings he's shown in the promo pic for his textures are the best wings.

what about a fuzzy displacement to make the wings fluffy??
