Subject: Has anyone used the Space Navigator with Carrara?

Attached Link: 3Dconnexion's SpaceNavigator

I was thinking of picking up this little device ($99) and was wondering if anyone has tried it with Carrara and if it works or not. Their website doesn't say, and I haven't heard back from their tech support.

The SpacePilot is not supported by Carrara Pro 5.1, as far as I can see. In fact, Carrara is rather unfriendly to the device. The only function that vaguely works is zooming and if you zoom 'past' an object it is difficult or impossible to get the view back. The SpaceNavigator uses the same drivers and I doubt you'll have any better luck with it. I stand to be corrected, but that's my experience so far.

Thanx for the heads up! Guess I'll pass on it for now...

Just thinking of an alternative but a cheaper solution may be a programmable joystick. You find many for just under $30 nowadays if you ever feel like experimenting a with it.

Would that work out of the box with the camera in Carrara? I'm not a programmer, but if it had a control panel to program some simple commands, that might work.

Anyone else doing this?
