I've just started to upload some of my photos (and I thank all of you who have left comments on them!) and I am keen to learn more and more about photography and how to enhance photos after the shot has been taken.

Last year I visited a local beauty spot and took many, many photos (two of which I have already uploaded) and just as we were leaving, we spent a few moment looking around the gift shop near the exit.  When we came out of the shop door to leave, there was a crowd of people gathered around a beautiful peacock (showing off for all to see his beautiful colours!!).

Of course, I still had my camera in hand a took two or three photos - they are OK shots but there is one in particular that I like but (and there's always a but...) because of the location, I had no other option but to shoot with the shop window and inside onlookers behind him :(

I am OKish at removing certain bits of unwanted background images (posts, cars etc.) from landscapes but have absolutely no idea how to remove the background from this shot whilst still leaving the feathers untouched!

Does anyone around here no of a "simple" tutorial on how to do this or....... would anybody like the challenge of trying to do it themselves?

I've uploaded the full-sized photo elsewhere so you can see the true definition to see if anything can be done, but I have added a thumbnail here to give you an idea.

Your help and advice are welcomed.

That would be a major task...something similar to the tutorial I posted a link for today. I am tempted to say it would be more trouble than it is worth, but you someone may have a brilliant idea for you.

Yes, I looked at that tutoral you posted and that's what reminded me about this photo!!! (See what you started!! :biggrin: )

I think, if you're saying not to bother, then that's what I'll do - you're a great photographer and if you wouldn't do it, then there's no chance on this earth that I would stand a chance! :sad:

Never mind, I wouldn't have known unless I'd asked the question, so I've lost nothing have I?

It's is not that it would be impossible, just that the time and effort it would take might now be worth it in the end. But perhaps someone else has a better idea for doing it quickly? Anyone, anyone? This is one possible 'quick fix' for bringing the emphasis to the peacock at the center. A feathered radial blur around the edges, some darkening, and emphasizing the peacock's bright colors. It still does not address what is behind the feathers though.

Sorry but that one looks next to impossible... And I doubt it would look any good after all the hard work... Kudos to anybody who can!!

Thanks guys - I tried the blur effect and couldn't get it to look anything like TwoPynts' attempt, so it's a definite "NO" from me - but then I couldn't do anything with it in the first place - hence the post!

I appreciate you all taking the time to check it out anyway - next time I'll see if I can "move" the subject matter into the middle of a deserted field LOL!! :lol:
