heh, try having them pass around your work with their copyright slapped on it and they are giving others permission to use it...

I do not feel obliged to believe that the same
God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has
intended us to forgo their use.

Where there's a will, there's a way - even if you put watermarks on there, sometimes they'll remove it in Photoshop (unless you do the nightmare ALL ACROSS THE IMAGE watermark - in which case it makes it almost unviewable). Even if it's a crappy job, they'll pass it off as their own.
Even in the commercial publishing world - I recently bought a copy of a horror movie called "Beyond the Wall of Sleep" and recognized the image on the back - most of it anyway. It was obviously doctored... I realized it was Rochr's "Asylum" image (yes, I contacted him, NO he never gave anyone permission to use it).
I'm sure the publisher never asked where the graphic designer got the image for the back cover - they don't think about those things - it's up to the illustrator/graphic artist/designer to have gone through legal channels - and many of them just go through the internet on a search for images they can use - "hey's here's another cool one for free!"
Quote - rumours indicate there are many more there and elsewhere, just like him. they keep popping up all the time. yahoo groups are far worse, from what I've heard.
Hands down yahoo has em beat. Something gets ripped and put up on yahoo good luck ever getting it taken down.
Terra personally the acronym should be S.O.B. although I'm sure rosity would never go for that one.

Yep, early on, I used to hide my initials in the image itself by shrinking them way down tiny small, and embedding them somewhere in the image itself, so that if you took the image and blew it up a couple of times, the intials would be visible, just in case someone ripped the image and removed my sig from it. I've seen some of my early stuff that was ripped on the net, and someone actually went in, and photoshopped my initials out.
Now, I just don't post anything, if I don't want it all over the place on the net.

What strikes me as funny was that it was stolen and reposted on a site that was bound to get Gio's attention. Moral weakness and incompetence are a bad combination.
Haven't found anything of mine "stolen" (passed off as their own) though I have found some posted without permission elsewhere as "Chimera46" on some Russian sites, so either i've been lucky or just haven't come across it yet.
I've been doing the embedded sig recently too, we'll see how well it holds up.
The strong do as they can while the weak do as they must.
Someone from here, can't remember his name, had not only his images stolen by some member at Deviant, the dude had also stolen his name and all... That's kinda pathetic...

I guess I should post an update for ya'll here. The douche was banned about 24 hours after I filed my complaint. Nothing to stop him from registering another name and attempting to do the same again though AFAIK, but hey, at least I won that battle!

I just found out this guy over at deviantArt has been stealing my artwork and posting it AS HIS OWN for about a month now!
I can't even believe it...I am nearly at a loss for words. I've dealt with your regular run of the mill inconsiderate people who hotlink or post "hey I found this cool image" w/o posting where they got it from, but nothing so mean spirited and vicious as this!
I have reported him to the dA admins and hopefully this scumbag will be taken care of swiftly.
UGH, unbelievable. Some people! >.<
