Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 11 12:18 am)
before the crash my brush would start acting crazy. ONly on certain files which seemed to then give that same problem every time I opened them. I'm on a mac. Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
yep, had it happen too with V4.

Turn off Use Binary Morph Targets and do your morphing, save, then turn it on for what you need e.g. to save a morph target - there is a bug that manifests with P7 and V4, it's debatable who's really at fault (imo Poser is, since it will corrupt the save file and does not even parse it for proper format while reading or writing).
it's only an occasional problem anyway.

Well, so far its only happened with Sydney (for me) - quite frequently, I might add.
With regards to the other problem where the morphing brush seems to stop working, this is more when I am in Combine mode, and I've locked some of the face-shaping morphs (but not others).
For example, I have one of the DAZ figures opened, and I have loaded up all of the head morphs. I then select the morph tool, and click the Combine tab. The list of morphs appears. I figure that if I only want to re-shape the nose I should lock everything else except the nose morphs. At this point, it stops working (it seems to not work if I flick back into the Create mode as well).
I've had occasions where morph brush stops working entirely too, although in much simpler circumstances - was trying to reshape a dynamic cloth item after simulation had run, something I've done many times, but occasionally the morph brush just stops working.
That seems to be related to how complex the scene is, because I could close and re-open Poser and reload the scene and the problem would still occur, but I could export the dress to .OBJ and import it in a new scene and it would work (and the reverse process to get it back into the original scene). Very irritating and inconvenient.
OK, I've found that the problem also occurs for P6 James (G1) .... but when I morphed David, I could keep morphing happily until the cows come home .....
Which tells me that the problem is more with the eFrontier characters in general, but that the DAZ characters are not affected in this way (haven't tried V4 yet).
The morph brush DOES have problems, though.
Yesterday I played with it the entire day. One thing I discovered is if you saved and close the file, i.e. PZ3, and then reopen there is no saved information. So if you wish to finish with the same morph, the tool will: First, go crazy when trying to apply, and then P7 with vanish.
I was using M3 for my experimentation, btw.
I finally got the hang of push/pull/smooth. And all was well until I stopped, saved, closed P7 and came back. No matter what I did, be it spawn the morph target, save copy as a different name or leave it as an open custom morph, each instance I returned to it, it wouldn't allow me to work on a morph-brushed figure/body part. It would distort the mesh, then P7 would POP/Vanish away.
While a great tool, it has some problems, I think.

Hi, I'm on a PC.
When I work on V4 with morph brush, sometime it explodes the part the brush was used on.
I hit undo, and more explosion. Ka boom.
I have to close P7 and restart, then I can use the morph brush no problem.
I don't use Binary Morph Target at all though.
I hope E-F. would address this bug in service patch.
I like this morph tool. It's very useful feature of P7.
lam2, I've also had the problem where you hit undo and everything explodes...I also hope that e-f address the problems with the morph tool as it has fantastic potential.
I should also expand on my last comment above, and that was I did not have the problem of Poser closing suddenly when I was working on Apollo either.
Actually something has just occurred to me......
The offending characters so far have been Sydney and James 1, these are both CRZ files. The characters that I have tried so far that work OK are David and Apollo Max, which are both CR2 files.
What does anyone think ?
FWIW, I don't know how to convert a CRZ file to a CR2 file, I know it can be done.....it would be a good test to see if I can convert Sydney to a CR2 and then see if she performs better with the morphing brush .....
I think CRZ is just the binary/compressed version of CR2 (which may be why you're having that problem manifest there, it may be the bug is REALLY with the guts that read/write Poser binary files). If you turn off file compression (assuming it's on) and load a Sydney, and save a copy in your Characters library (maybe in a sub-category), it should be written in CR2 format, pretty sure.
Yep that seems to be the case:

Poser Pro Pack, 5 and 6 also support binary compressed versions of these types and the extensions will change slightly replacing the '2' or '3' with a 'z' to indicate that they are zipped (e.g. pzz, crz, p2z.)

Hi all,
I have found that sometimes, while I am in the middle of sculpting with the morphing brush, Poser will just suddenly close without any warning whatsoever.
Has anyone else experienced this ?
It goes to show the importance of saving your Poser files while still developing....

Andrew
