Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 30 6:52 am)
All my textures are in a "textures" folder and they stay there because I don't want to have them duplicated in every program folder. As for objects, I have a "3d objects" folder too, with subcategories for 3ds, lwo, vob, etc... My Poser pz3 are in my Poser folder, because pz3 is not a 3d file format but a Poser scene format. Same for .vue scene files.
Thank you for the quick reply. I take it everyone else here pretty much has the same method as you (or else they might have responded), So I'll try your method and hopefully can get everything ordered in such a way that it will be easy to find all the stuff I have and want, from one location, from every programme I use... :)
Seems like a lot of work getting it all ordered, but once it is all set, it should save time and be a lot easier to find stuff...
I setup a folder for each project/picture I am working on. All of my imported items and any special textures I need go into that folder. Once I'm done with the picture, I burn it to DVD and delete it off my drive. Sometimes, a texture or imported item might be used for other pics, those go into my main library folders.
I also make sure to include the vue file and backups to my DVD - I tend to make up to 10 revisions, so for a file that's around 100MB, that can get to be a lot of hard drive space! Each time I make a major change to the file, I save it under a new name: Pic1, Pic2, Pic3, etc. By using the description field when saving the file, it really helps when I want to go back to an earlier version.

I have a second drive with Vue content folders and everyting goes in those folders. I have to keep going to them to get the items, but do not have to worry about something getting lost. LIke Peggy I cut a DVD backup from time to time, just in case.
I tend to do the same thing that Peggy_Walters does - every project has its own collection of bits and peices and (theoretically, in my case) it gets sent to backup/archive at the end. Struggling with the practical aspect of that DVD thing so far ;)

Sorry, I wasnt sure where to post it. I guess I could post it in pretty much every 3d thread here, as it's more a question regarding the various items you would use in these programs.
Like many, I use more then just Vue. 3DMax, Cinema 4d, Poser, etc etc...
So I'd like to know how you guys manage your textures, models etc!?
Do you store the same textures in different maps? So you would store a texture for a stone wall in the texture map for 3dMax, and then also store the same texture in the texture-map for Cinema4d, etc etc...!?
And same as with models? Do you store yur poser models in your Poser program file map? And then also in your Vue program files map?
Or do you guys set up 1 basic 'textures' map, and make every program you use link to THAT map, when you quickly want to rech your textures? And same thing for models?
Again, apologies if this is in the wrong thread, or should have been in another thread.
