I've been following this tutorial from DAZ
http://www.daz3d.com/i.x/tutorial/tutorial/-/?id=1798

trying to make a realistic glass of beer. Does anyone know of an alternative way to create foam other than the method shown? It takes far too long to render (17% - 21% took 5 hours).

oh man..where have I seen this? I think there's a very old set of tutorials at Bryce Tech (the link, not our reverend of the same name..;) from about 5 years ago. Could be the same tut tho. The site may also not be around any more. I'm just a little ray of sunshine today...:|

This is an old render I did years ago, probably in B4. I modeled an object for the foam in Amorphium, as I recall it took awhile to fender because the foam was a volume material.

**There is probably going to be now way around the render time to do something like foam and have it come out properly.  No matter how simple in geometry your foam object is,  there is always the material properties behind foam that will jack up your render times.  My two cents worth is if you want foam then you will have to pay for it with render time.  Render it at night or a little bit at a time when you do not need the computer.  Save it and come back and render some more later if you need to.

@ Stephen Ray:  You did a great job.  Gotta love those cigarette burns on the counter.**
