Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 03 12:46 am)
Two suggestions:
If you have Use External Binary Morph Targets on, turn it off.
If you have file compression on, turn it off, and if you are working with compressed content e.g. Sydney is stored in a .crz file, consider converting it to uncompressed.
Yes, Mathman in particular was someone I remember had a lot of erratic problems with Poser compressed files - some of the built in stuff in Poser 7 is already compressed. Search for posts by Mathman and it's one of the more recent threads of his.
Hi,
My problem with compressed files was particular to using the new morphing brush tool. It used to crash without warning when I was working on either Sydney or James 1, both of which are CRZ files.
The solution for me was to apply a python script called uncompressPoserFiles.py, I'm not sure if that is part of the basic package or not (seeing as I had copied part of the Runtime from P6).
regards,
Andrew
PZ3 is not compressed, anything Poser-related that ends in Z (.crz, .pzz, or whatever) is compressed.
I think I remember Teyon saying that the service release for Poser 7 is planned for February?
Not as far as I have heard, and since that's entirely handled by the operating system transparent to Poser, I don't think that's too likely, no. I suppose you could test easily enough by uncompressing some or all of the files you're working with for a while (right click file -> properties -> Compressed).

...but lately I'm starting to want to punch through my monitor. In the last 24 hours P7 has frozen 1) after hitting the browse button to search for texture, 2) after hitting the apply symmetry button, 3) clicking ok to export a .OBJ file (this one happened twice), and 4) after clicking to delete a hair group. I'm the first to admit my once bleeding edge computer has aged far from top of the line. But with almost a gig of ram, a late model P4 HT processor, and an geforce GPU I should be far from unusable. I'm also use dynamic cloth as a major component of my workflow. So the bug where cloth randomly falls through a figure was already a major problem for me. This random freeze is just unbearable.
The forum isn't really ready to mutiny against e-frontier (or perhaps those that are have lost faith and retired their P7s), so I'm open to the idea that this is just me. But I'd still like to know, is anyone else having these random freezes? Anyone have any thoughts as to what the problem might be?
