Subject: Blender freestuff

oldskoolPunk ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 3:08 PM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 11:43 PM

How do I search for Blender freestuff? I have uploaded 2 items a few months ago, but I can't find them by searching for Blender. I was able to find one by searching in the catagory that I uploaded them to (misc/misc) but not the other one. I was wondering how do other people find these free items if even the person that uploaded them cannot?

I think oodmb has uploaded some free blends showing his excellent mastery of liquids, but I can't find it anywhere.

I uploaded a few more free .blends this morning (into misc/misc) and plan to upload a few more tonight. Maybe we could get a section devoted to free blend files?

I was gonna pester the admins about that when everything was converted to php and I completely forgot.  I'll get on that.

For now, you can find people's free stuff through their homepages, but yeah, it's a bit hard to find it in the free stuff sections.

Awesome! Thanks Haloedrain

Stacy says they can set this up for us, but she needs to know what subcategories to include.  I'm thinking the following:

models
materials
rigged characters
scenes

Are there any more that I've missed before I reply to her?  Not that there are so many things in there that it matters right now, but there could be ;)

I think "scripts" should be added to the category list.

oldskoolPunk ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 6:01 PM

Sounds great! Yea don't forget scripts :)

haloedrain ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 6:10 PM

Oh!  I knew there must be something!  Yes, scripts.  I'll wait a little longer in case anyone else wants to add anything.

oodmb ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 9:59 PM

i have uploaded something, my cornell box with the odd looking glasses, but i uploaded it before they changed how free stuff worked, and then the site i had used to host it closed down(i think, or they just dropped my file).  if you want it or any of my other free stuff you can go to my website.

oldskoolPunk ( ) posted Thu, 25 January 2007 at 11:50 PM · edited Thu, 25 January 2007 at 11:52 PM

Well if you have a website, then you  can just use a direct link to the file in the new Blender freestuff section that haloedrain is getting for us.

haloedrain ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 12:01 AM

As a coordinator I do get some file locker space, so I can host a few small things for people if they need it.

haloedrain ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 9:45 AM

Ok, I just told stacy we need the categories

models
materials
rigged characters
scenes
scripts

So that should be set up for us soon, I think.  Yay!

By the way, I may not always notice if you've uploaded stuff to freestuff (things get lost in all that poser underwear...), so let me know when you do and I'll go approve it right away, otherwise it might sit for a bit.

oldskoolPunk ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 4:29 PM

haloedrain, thanks for processing my items so quickly :) I added 3 more this morning and one just now. It seems the wearables are in high demand! (120 downloads on the helm in like 12 hours) so I added a set of armour to see what happens.

No textures or anything, but hey its free :)
Hmm, underwear, that might be fun? (looks through my drawer of tighty-whities)

oodmb ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 4:45 PM

i added my three files from my website.

haloedrain ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 5:57 PM

Actually I didn't even see that one, someone else gets credit for being quick there ;)

oodmb:  apparently all thumbnail images in freestuff are stretched to 200 px wide and the height stretches accordingly, so your long narrow image ends up being really big and pixellated.  (grumble sloppy coding...)  Could you make the picture wider so it's not taking up most of the page?

oodmb ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:02 PM

uh, probably not, the pic i used was just the one from my gallery image that was automaticaly scalled down.  couldnt they use the same code for the gallery images in the free stuff secion?

oodmb ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:04 PM

oh, and i just checked the free stuff section, it seems as though one of my pics which has a hight less than 200 is not streched. and none of the otherones seemed streched either, maybe its your computer.

haloedrain ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:07 PM · edited Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:10 PM

No it's stretching the width to 200, not the height.  I'll check it in IE too, but it's displaying as 200x800 in firefox.

Edit: looks the same in IE.

oodmb ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:09 PM

odd.  i'm also seeing images up to 300 pixels high.  whatever, i dont realy mind my phantom man being realy fat

haloedrain ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:12 PM

well, it's not that he's fat, it's stretching the height also, so it stretches it to 200 wide and also 800 high.  I don't understand why they're stretching it at all, really.

oodmb ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:13 PM

oh, well then my picture just gets to be the biggest picture on the page!  more popularity for me!

haloedrain ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:21 PM

I went ahead and approved it.  The image itself it just fine, members probably shouldn't have to be accountable for bad programming.  You can see what I mean now, though.  It looks a little ridiculous, but that's ok ;)

oodmb ( ) posted Fri, 26 January 2007 at 6:22 PM

lol

Tobak30 ( ) posted Mon, 29 January 2007 at 12:14 PM

It is nice. but you still have to search for the blender free stuff. I thought there would like like an own department alongside poser, lightwave and stuff.

haloedrain ( ) posted Mon, 29 January 2007 at 12:24 PM

It will be, I'm still waiting for stacy to set it up.

VRG ( ) posted Tue, 30 January 2007 at 3:12 AM
