Subject: Enterprise Modeling Troubles

Greetings modelers! I'm using Maya, and am attempting to do some modeling of The Starship Enterprise, The Motion Picture version. A daunting task, I grant you, and as such, I have a question for you all. I need help, basically. :) Have any of you ever modeled this ship before? The reason I ask, is that the area around the shuttle bay on the secondary hull is giving me no end of trouble. I've got references a plenty of what it is supposed to look like, and have high resolution blueprint images to use as image planes, but the modeling of this section is far more complex than my skill level appears to be able to tackle. If anyone is able to help with this, please message me, as I don't want to spam the forums with tons of complex modeling advice that will be irrelevant to others or will be better kept private. On the other hand, if that is what this forum is for, then by all means do so publicly, though I admit I am going to have a ton of questions, so I don't want to be spammy. The images found here show the tail section far better than I can describe it: http://www.oneioddities.com/renderosity/maya/enterprise/ Thanks for your help! Well   I have not attempted this. Did a few trek things way back when. But this site is where there are a lto fo sci fi modelers who probably know and have made exactly that. hope this is of help.

I've done the original (1701, you're asking about the 1701-A), nothing to write home about, but I've done a few simple models.

Here's an idea; hollow out the shuttle area, then 'plug' it with a quarter-sphere (slice in half, then slice a half of that), maybe some extruding or beveling for detail? Don't have Maya (I'm way down at the other end of the spectrum), but that's what I'd probably do.

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit
