Does anyone here know how to make a DVD movie, I mean something like a slide show, with controls, that's recorded on DVD for your TV. (I.E. the fireplace dvd around christmas)

This will be of artwork, to be used on large screen HD plasma TVs.

Any info welcomed......=)

oh oh.. crap what was that thing called again... I think its from adobe... my colleague uses it to make dvd menu's and such.. i'll let ya know as soon as i remember the name!

Jan, I've made movies that went on dvd with menus and background music. 
I used Pinnacle Studio and it's excellent! Nero is also good but less sophistacted (easier)

With Pinnacle, you load up each photo on a timeline and set how long each pic remains on the screen - simple drag along the timeline. You can also add clever transitions or blends to give  a nice effect instead of just jumping from one pic to the other. (See Renderosity DVD)

Music - you just pic your favourite piece/s from your harddrive or cd/dvd player and load into onto the Audio timeline.

Then you can add your own titles and scolling credits to finish off with.
Pinnacle has more controls than you can throw a stick at, and comes with tons of special effects. You can even add surround-sound or dolby stereo as well as your own commentry or narrative via a headset.
I made a 25min movie of my grandson's first year on life. Came out really nice, using music from Elton John and Alanis Morrisette and footage taken over the course of an entire year.

My Sony Viao computer came pre- packaged with a sony program "Click to DVD"  I'm not sure it is available as stand alone.  It is a less sophisticated program than what Bryster is describing.  I have used it to create slide shows of digital photos set to music.  Creation of title screen is included but any additional credit screens  would have to be created by you as an included image.  It also can be sync'ed to music included or from your personal files.  Finished product is self starting DVD. Perhaps you can google it. 

It can also create and edit dvd from digital and analog video.

Adobe DVD Encore is a good program! That's the name I couldn't remember yesterday. It allows u to make fully functional (and animated, if so desired) dvd navigation menu's and such. Which should be allright for a slideshow type thing I suppose.
Dunno which version will be best in terms of value for money but it's good for making dvd's. Also u can link it to other adobe products like after effects and premiere and (naturally) also features PSD support etc.

Thanks guys....my sister and b-inlaw bought a 62in plasma tv and wanted her oil paintings and some of my work to be displayed. And since the dang thing hangs on the wall like a painitng anyway this would give them something more....

owww wow 62 inch! If its a plasma i wouldnt use it as a 'digital painting' though! U know how plasma's tend to burn in! It'd suck if u bought a $5000 screen and next thing u know theres a brycean image premanently burned into the screen :tongue1:

Thanks, yeah the burn in means that no image can be up for more than 1min at a time no more than once every 50 images. I looked into Pinnacle and it looks like just what I need, a little pricey though, I'll try the demo and see if it's worth the cash.........

Jan, I got mine bundled with my digicam!!!

However, I think the whole package is worth the money. You get Hollywood effects (makes 3d moving transistions) and the option to capture VHS or Digicam, sound/music and burn to a whole variety of formats (dvd-VCD-AVI)

Just got this question from my neighbor, whom wants to put his 2D portfolio on DVD. He had came over one day when I had that "Best of Renderosity" playing, and he went nuts, lol.

LOL ! You'd think I work for Pinnacle....but! You can now do stuff that's 'HD READY' as they say in the trade...... High definition movies and stuff..............you need Windoze XP though and plenty of room on your HDD.

And you don't need to be 'good at it'.......a child could do it.....heck! Maybe they do!

Premiere and After Effects for the movies ( transitions and m2v conversion)
Encore for the DVD burn and dolby digital sound

make your life easy
find a video capture card that comes with the full versions of this.
You'll pay about 250 for the card and get the 1500 in software free (its how I got all of mine)

I downloaded their trial version 10.5  but on the install got a fatal error on one of the components and it aborted .....Bryster, what version do you have, was it on disk or download? This app looks like just what I wanted...

CD - came with the digicamcorder I bought.  9.4something.......he sez - getting that daja vu feeling.............I'd do the usual housekeeping IIWU..........and try again.

Be warned! It's as addictive as Bryce. Once you start editing movies you start dreaming of being a Hollywood Director..................

Movie editing and playing is very addictive, I use Premiere Pro for vid edit and Wax for compositing. 

If you've got decent hardware, I reckon the Premiere Elements 3 / Photoshop Elements 5 is a snap for the quality of the software.
