jonnte ( ) posted Thu, 01 February 2007 at 3:29 PM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 3:33 PM

Hi everybody!

I´m completely new to blender and is now taking a course in modeling and animation with open source software... and blender is the software we´ll use the most... so I guess I´ll be hanging around here quite a bit from now on   :)

Anyway...

Hipp hipp hurray the problems beginn emidiatly after installing 2.42a version, when I startup I get a message saying "yada yada yada... wrong wrong something" :-) and then the startup of program ends.. I cant´open the programme... anyone had the same problem/knows how to solve it.. I run win xp...

Could you take a screenshot of the error message and post it?  I've never seen an error that actually shuts the program down before it starts, so it's hard to say what might be wrong without seeing the message.

I have never had a yada yada message are you sure thats what it said?  Welcome to the wonderfull world of blender.

saying just windows xp and that you have gotten an error message is wrong.  the only problem i have ever had is installing yafray on a protected computer without admin rights that didnt allow registry edits.  i had to change the path from program files to my documents when i was installin blender on that computer.  if you realy want help, you need to tell more about your computers setup and what the error message said.

Will post a screen shot when I get back to my computer!

Why I just asked this short way is that I thought perhaps it was a common fault that had a pretty easy solution...

actualy, one of the things i love about blender is its stability under virtualy all circumstances, so there are realy very few errors that are common.  i have installed it now on maybe 30 computers a couple hundred times and i have never encountered a problem at all.

oldskoolPunk ( ) posted Fri, 02 February 2007 at 10:30 AM

So you've installed Blender 6000 times?

I have noticed quite a bit of instability on Windows 98, surely out of those 6000 times you've encountered at least 1 problem?

Jonnte, a common message at start-up will say that it can't find an installed Python. Python isn't required and Blender will still run fine. It opens in a seperate window :)

oodmb ( ) posted Fri, 02 February 2007 at 11:29 AM

yes, about that highly exagerated number of times, and actualy the only problems i have ever had installing blender were with cvs and release candidate versions, and once when the installer was corrupt because of an incomplete download, but that was due to an ie problem.

GRRR!!! Don´t get it to work... have tried earlier versions too now and the same thing... I get the windows message saying blender.exe has some problem and has to shut down... then it asks if I want to send in a fault report... the standard thing... don´t know what to do right now.. I need the program to work on my machine...

YEES!!!
Thanx a billion!  apparently it was some old quicktime files laying around that caused the problems.. not exactly first thing that you think of.... :)

That's really weird, but I'm glad you've got it working now!

I wouldn't mind checking that one out.  Can you share a link for a course descriptions?

jonnte ( ) posted Sun, 04 February 2007 at 2:34 AM

Don´t have the adress right here.. can post it later... but it´s a course in swedish and a real beginners course.. I mainly take it to have the papers to do a more advanced course later so to speak...

Sounds like it would be a language barrier.  Thanks anyway.  😄
