Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 26 1:43 pm)
the only place you can buy it from www.e-frontier.com/ $250 (£129.69) by download or they will send you it! http://www.contentparadise.com i would say get number 6 a lot more things in that one and number 7 is slow
acidman
as i said it's only got two new ppl in 7 simon and sydney I did not like the clothings much! you only get both 4 new clothing it's a bit slow wether deleting the main person in the room or lights moving them were you want them. I think you need to keep downloading the clothing it can be a pain in the a**. I would say if you are going to buy number 7 then wait untl a patch comes out! buy number 6 and then upgrade to 7 If you have not used this program (software) then buy 6 and wait until you get use to it

If it's not too late you might try want to reconsider. Poser 7 has more content than any previous version as well as new animals an environmental objects. It also has multiple undos which is a great feature that previous versions did not have as well as faster rendering with multi-processor options. It also has a new morphing tool which I'm discovering is great to have as it can repair poke throughs in the clothes. Although the new version has some bugs, I'm finding that they are not really limiting my creativity and are sure to be fixed soon.
Quote - k, thanks, I found poser 6 on cdw and new egg for 160 - 180 $
now one more question will I be able to import from 3d max and or maya into poser, or export from poser to either of the other software?
thanks again,.....again. :)
You can import to Poser as .3ds or .obj as exported from 3DSMax or Maya. Poser (like all other 3D apps in the universe) cannot possibly support the proprietary file formats of these (.max or .ma/.mb/.mel).
You can export from Poser as .obj and use in most other apps (with some retexturing). Some apps natively support static Poser scenes (Carrara and Vue). Others support static Poser scenes with plugins (BodyStudio, CinePoser, interPoser Ltd, Riptide, et al). Others support converted live scenes using plugins (Carrara with Transposer, Cinema 4D with CR2Loader, interPoser Pro, Max with GestureMax).

Go Poser7 for sure,
Morph Brush is well worth the price of upgrade...plus you get 4new figures (simon sydney and two kids), the G2 males (kevin koji and james), passport for a 6 month term, talk designer.
Poser 6 you get jessi and james and the two kids (james G2 as well from CP)
Thats just off the top of my head...but poser 7 is the better deal for sure.

yeah I just looked over the poser 7 info on amazon once I saw the layered animation tools (very similar to the character studio in max) I think I will be getting 7 even if there are "some bugs" I am mainly wanting it because while I am a professional 3d artist, making realistic looking human models,......I just don't have the patience, I mostly work in architecture and environmental scenes.
The G2 figures are well worth the money alone as they seem to be the "future" of 3d figures. V4 that Daz just released at a very high price shares a lot of features in common with them. The Sydney female figure has a lot of support with textures and outfits and the G2 males come with a nice set of clothes and have others avaiable. Jepe is working on some new textures for them.
Now while I am waiting on my poser to get here, would someone mind explaining all the abbreviations you guys are throwing around,....?
I am (while waiting) downloading as much of the free stuff as I can, but I began to think about the abbreviations and if some or all of the downloads will work on my ver 7?
thanks in advance.
All freestuff made for earlier versions of Poser work in Poser 7. Most of them will not make use of the more advanced features of Poser 7 though.
There's one exception: ERC. ERC depended on a bug in Poser 4, a bug that has been fixed since Poser 5. The ERC "hack" has evolved as well, so many newer "ERC" products will work, but the really old ones probably won't.
That is, the automatic morph adjustment that ERC provides won't work, you'll have to adjust the morph values by hand. The geometry and textures work as they should.
The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
All legacy content except for python scripts should work with Poser 7. Any figures you buy on Daz 3d are fully compatible. For some fun Poser trivia:
Dork = P4 Male
Posette = P4 Female
Pre poser 5 figures are low res compared to the new figures, they are good for background figures, animations or cartoons where you don't need a lot of detail. After Poser 4 Curious Labs gave the native poser people names (I think in part to personalize them and in part to compete with Daz's line of excellent figur). You'll still hear the old figures referred to as Dork and Posette.
When you get your software take time to go through the content library and see what you have. There are some 3rd party figures provided, and some excellent new animals. Be sure to download the free items from Content Paradise once you activate your membership!
Nice, thanks again, I know I will learn more about using poser very soon, I'm just looking forward to working some of these poser models into my environments, gonna be a blast.
thanks for all your help and input.
I am in a bit of downtime right now so if anyone wants something modeled I'd be able to make most anything and save out as .obj for you guys/girls
Quote - Stethoscope, otoscope, thermometer, iv poles, monitors, E.R. room....lol
I know that's a big order. Learning Maya but not even close to that yet.
Sure no big deal, are these things you want going to need to be textured? or is that something you can do?
and also I am not sure what scale to build them on so some re-sizing maybe need on your part I haven't received my poser yet (thursday) but once I get it I'm sure I will be able to make items on a better scale.

I am thinking about buying the new poser 7, and I was wanting to get some input from the forums.
1, what is the best place to buy it from (I have found it on several sites from $165 - $249.
2, what kind of content do you get with it (figures and all).
thanks to all who help.
