It just occurred to me that maybe the header to my post below might be just a little too ambiguous or vague, so I'll just say it outright: Click on the link and read E-on's official announcement about Vue 4! Cheers, Mike PS PLease, Cheers, don't sue me... LOL

Cheers ( ) posted Mon, 07 May 2001 at 2:33 PM

No, your OK Mike, I'm too happy to sue anyone at the moment :oD. Must just say somthing about the release...there is no mention of improved modelling...I hope that e-on have added some functionality to it, at least being able to scale objects in certain ways other than globally. Ohhh what the hell, I'm nit picking...ignore me ;) Cheers

I really don't know about that, but after all Vue IS a rendering program.... C'mon, man, you want them to start charging us MAX prices? That's why God invented Rhino, after all, as a plug-in for Vue, LOL Glad to hear you're not in a sue-ing mood! Cheer$, Mike

Varian ( ) posted Mon, 07 May 2001 at 3:26 PM

No, no, not Max prices. But along with Cheers, I'm hoping for some aditional modeling abilities. Vue technically isn't a "modeling" program as such, but I do use it for modeling of a sort. I want to be able to twist and taper and some other stuff, too. :) I wonder if SolidGrowth "2" means we'll be able to design our own trees and plants to grow....ah, that would be amazing! :D

MikeJ ( ) posted Mon, 07 May 2001 at 3:40 PM

Well, Varian, between you and laurie, y'all hav eproven that modeling with Vue IS possible. But, I can see how you'd want it to be easier too!

I don't want to sound cheap, but I'm a little low on cash (paying for a Powerbook G4!) will Vue 4 be at a reduced price for Vue 3 owners? Like an upgrade...

Daffy34 ( ) posted Mon, 07 May 2001 at 10:13 PM

That wasn't made clear in the press release. It's a question all of us current Vue 3 users have. Laurie

MikeJ ( ) posted Mon, 07 May 2001 at 11:23 PM

Yeah, I know I certainly am hoping for an upgrade deal. That reminds me, I meant to email them and ask. Doh--- how could I have forgotten THAT?

Varian ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 12:04 AM

I can't imagine there not being a special upgrade price. They know we're hooked already. :)

Now if this isn't a cheerer upper in these her gloomy days of summer. Improved lighting options, maybe even no more fiddling for days with a dozen lights to fake a moon through a window, yup things are looking good in Vue-land :))

"Vue 4 will also feature a completely rewritten rendering engine that will increase rendering speed by 40%" - That's pretty damn exciting to me, plus Volumetric Clouds and Atmospheres. I may not even be using Terragen much more after Vue 4 comes out... Sounds like Bryce 5 will be dragging it's Rear compared to Vue 4. Even if Bryce 5 has some nice plants, its still using is tired old rendering engine from what I hear...

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 12:50 PM

40% faster. I read that and thought, "Now how dey gunna do dat?" Add 40% more speed onto something already pretty quick? Wow!

smallspace ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 2:28 PM

Hmm...you know, Vue's gonna' need all the speed it can get if it's gonna' handle volumetric rendering...my guess is that you won't get to the end result any faster, but it will be a lot more impressive!

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 2:30 PM

I'll say! I see no one has yet really mentioned the "demo" pic they have with the announcement at the E-on site. I'd love to know who did it. It's really impressive!

smallspace ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 2:59 PM

Probably don't want to give away who's been beta testing...

I'd rather stay in my lane than lay in my stain!

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 3:04 PM

Yes, of course--- I'm sure you're right about that. I hope they say who's it was after it's been released though.

JMFx33 ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 7:16 PM

Man I cannot wait!

Varian ( ) posted Tue, 08 May 2001 at 11:56 PM

No one can! :D
