I use ambient occlusion a lot, and while OcclusionMaster does not do anything you couldn't do yourself manually, it saves A LOT of clicking.  It was worth $15 and works very smoothly in Poser 6 and Poser 7.  I did things by hand for a long time and finally broke down and bought it, and it saves a lot of trouble and time.

Agree with pjz99.  It works wonderfully, it blew my mind the first time I used it, making a halter top and necklace jump off the body, whereas they "sat" flat against the skin before I clicked it on.  Well worth the price for admission IMHO.

Until this thread posted I had completely forgotten I bought this before my birthday last year so I installed it and all I can say is WOW!

First of all, it works like a charm in both P6 and P7 and it really does take the work out of AO lighting.  I didn't notice any discernible increase in render times, either.

The first image is without using Occlusion Master.

This one is after using Occlusion Master on the same character with the same lights, which will be one of the 5 light presets included in her package.

Occlusion Master is great, but you use it on individual surfaces as opposed to on your overall lighting set up.

It's nice that way because then you have more control over what has AO and what doesn't, so you can save some render time by leaving out things that don't need the effect.

It's a great product and takes a lot of the guess work out of AO.  Over all, though it depends on how you work.  I don't use it with everything, a lot of time I use the lighting based AO settings instead.

The effect it has can be very subtle at times, but it's always well worth using it.

I haven't seen anyone complaining about it not working & it doesn't come as a compiled file so it should work ok.

I have the Unimesh realism kit and was thinking about buying the Occlusion Master.   Since I have the Unimesh Kit, should I buy the Occlusion Master?  Thanks.

Absolutely!  I use them together all the time, yes - in P7, and they compliment each other very well.  Just a note, though, right now the Unimesh kit doesn't work on V4 but it works fine on the Gen3 characters.

Occlusion Master is awesome. I can never go without. Check some images in my gallery and you will see a difference. Sunshine is one of em.

I purchased Occlusion Master and tried it last night.  There was no discernable difference in my render.  From the samples shown, I thought it would give me small shadows next to bra straps.  Any ideas what I might have done wrong?  I followed the directions on the read me and used the default settings that the wacro came with.

I can't see the difference between the two renders shown in this thread.  Can anyone please point out exactly what it is?

Thanks!

Wonder how your light setting was. Dunno as well due to no sample shown how bad the problem is.

To see how occlusion master works by the examples in this thread.

1.) lips: You can see how the shadows are between the lips.
2.) Ears: Will try to explain here as much as I can on this one. This is the first place I look at so see how well occlusion master did its job. You can see the shadow applied from the lighting around the earloobs.

3.) Eyes: Although I do not see much of a difference here. Hard to see, it is their.

Lighting does do a crucial role in Occlusion Master. It does help, even on neck area, and around other parts of the body.

the lips are the easiest to distinguish. where the lips come together it is darker with AO.

Here's an image from before I used occlusion master.  I used the standard lighting you get when you start a new poser file.  Am I supposed to use special lighting?

Robo2010 ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 1:04 PM · edited Tue, 06 February 2007 at 1:07 PM

Actually the standard poser lightings does ok for OC. Although their is a lot more to lighting that just adding/using em.

Aesthete ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 1:17 PM

I'm sure there is a lot more.  But I need to figure out how to use this wacro properly.

Robo2010 ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 1:36 PM

K..will work in something.

svdl ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 2:59 PM

The AO settings depend on the Firefly render and raytracing. The Poser 4 render engine will not use ambient occlusion settings, and if you don't enable raytracing in Firefly, you will not see any difference either.

To verify - I'm supposed to choose the character as the subject if I'm looking for shadows to fall on the skin?

svdl ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 3:10 PM

That's correct. Ambient occlusion settings must be set on the surface that is supposed to receive the subtle shadow effects, not on the objects that should cast those shadows.

Just got home to work on something. svdl helped ease the issue. Thanks svdl.. 😄

Aesthete ( ) posted Tue, 06 February 2007 at 9:30 PM

OK, now that I finally got time to come back and try again, I see what my problem was.  Like you said, it was the render settings and not setting the quality high enough to trigger the raytracing.

Thanks for the help.
