Subject: Poser Survey

I just got my EF news letter and it seems EF is conducting another survey for future version of poser. So I took a stab at it.

"Poser Survey
Poser users, we are looking for your input to help us design future versions of Poser. Please take just a few minutes for our survey to tell us more about who you are, how you use Poser, which features you use more and which are highest on your wish list, and more. Thanks in advance for your participation!

I just filled out the survey. A pity they missed the scripting category, one of the things Poser really should have is FULL scripting support, plus FULL wxPython support.

Well, mine was pretty biased. You'd better be ready to beef up the render engine and make a bridge to Cinema. ;) (I'm kidding you.. ) It's nice to see a company that's interested enough to do this.

I would like far better posing control, using the rotate tool is one pain in the butt. The dials are ok for fine tuning but we need better mouse control movement. Thats MO

Better lighting, more like what Vue6 has!

thefixer - Agree with you there. But there again I'm like you, use Poser to create the scene & then do the light & render work in Vue. But for those that just use Poser this would be a great improvement, especially if they wanted to create more realistic outdoor scenes.

Fix the version we have now and give us a decent update before you start asking us what would make the next version better?

Dale B ( ) posted Thu, 08 February 2007 at 5:03 AM

Hmmmm.... Actually, I wonder if they are fishing to see if there is enough interest in a 'pro' version of Poser, like eon did with Vue Infinite? Maya style manipulators? FBX support? Format support for all the major packages, plus some that are tailored for animation? The option levels for network rendering? -How much- of the app people want as 64 bit? Onionskinning is only useful to keyframe animators, just like most of that list is asking about professional level needs. Something to think about....

thefixer ( ) posted Thu, 08 February 2007 at 7:14 AM

So that's why most of it was gobbledygook, it was "pro" speak!! [LOL]

WTF is onion skinning anyway? Except something that makes you cry when making Fajita's

thefixer - I wanted to ask that question as well, but I thought I'd be the only one who didn't know what it was!!

They need to change from using the Firefly renderer IMO - very slow really for raytracing. Also they need to make sure all material channels are doing vaguely what they purport to be doing - e.g. Transluscence doesn't really seem to act like transluscence in Poser.
Definitely better lighting with full specular options for IBL and HDRI. Some form of radiosity (not the gather node!) would be nice too.
Perhaps running Vue and Poser side-by-side is better than trying to improve everything in Poser itself - If the rigging was much improved and fully exportable to Vue to render(?).
I actually found Vue5 Infinite quite slow to render in as well, but that may have improved.

thefixer - We learn something new every day. I'd heard of this process but never knew it was called this, it just sounded like a joke!
