Subject: Figure parenting?

If I have a figure and I parent it to another figure, is there any way that I can save it so that it stays parented (like a smart prop for figures)?

Q: If I have a figure and I parent it to another figure, is there any way that I can save it so that it stays parented (like a smart prop for figures)? A: This answer applies to P4 and P5, odds are that it works the same in P6 and P7, but I can't say for certain. There is no way (that I know of) to save a figure from the Poser interface so that it will smart parent to another figure. There is a way to edit a cr2 so that its BODY actor will smart parent to an actor in another figiur, but there is a big catch, if you delete either figure from the scene Poser IS LIKELY TO HANG, OR CRASH. Because of this I feel that such figure "smart parenting" should not be used on any item for distribution. I feel that no one will appreciate a product, even a freebi, that may cause Poser to crash. That being said if you want to try it at home for your own ammusment here is how: If using P5 and up, make sure Poser is set to save uncompressed files. Setup the figure to be parented (lets call it "Figure2"), and parent it to the other figure (lets call this "Figure1"). From the 'Fugure' menu do 'Set Figure Parent', let's parent it to the 'hip' (for example). Save Figure2 as a single figure. Open the "Figure2.cr2" in a text editor. Use the editors Search (or Find) function to find the second instance of the string 'actor BODY'. Scrolling down a few lines you should see the line "parent hip:1", change this to read "smartparent hip". Resave the file. Remember, deleting either figure from a scene may cause Poser to crash.

I may have another look at this, and see if I can find a way to overcome the hang/crash problem, but I doubt it.

Thank you for that.

i sometimes make a little parenting pose (pz2)for the Figure i want to parent, seems to work ok, but of course you still shouldn't save w/ it enabled (i found out about the crash syndrome the hard way!) here's an example

{

actor BODY
 {
 smartparent chest

 }
figure
 {
 }
}

Thank you but I wont use it if it makes poser unstable, it is easy enough to tell people to parent one figure to the other.
