Try the abovePinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
the bad news is that the country involved there is a "failed state", hence there is no point in informing the authorities there, and one may be subjected to more serious scams if one does try to contact the authorities there. the worse news is that this scam is effective on some recipients, and that's enuff to keep them playing the scam.
I get 20-50 a day like that, I have been an active member of 419eater in the past & done my bit to confuse & irritate the scammers. The Right Reverend Emollient may yet make a comeback with his New & Improved Church of the Holy Hobnob, at least he may when I have time to set it all up.

Uh huh, and I can pretty much guarantee you that the only "mode of payment" will turn out to be your bank account where you will have to give them not only your account number, but, the routing number as well...basically total access to your money.
Don't fall for it and just delete it. It does happen and it's annoying, and frankly I'm amazed at the people that fall for these scams...I'm talking about supposedly high dollar, educated people.
I know the OP is not falling for this, I just get all preachy when I see paper thin scams, knowing that someone will actually fall for it.
Millions of these are forward to the bureau each day. While they are followed up on they take a back seat to Homeland security assignments. Do NOT and I mean DO NOT reply or give out your personal information or bank accounts. So many people are falling for this type of scam. It is best to delete from you box and forget about it. And you're right StevieG the number of well educated professional people of been the most victims of this scam. Damn shame too cause these folks have lost thousands!
I've received several similar letters. One even claimed that they were from a bank in Africa contacting me because they wanted to swindle the bank out of a large sum since no heirs had come forth for one of their clients' accounts and I was to pose as one and split the money with the bank assistant :) Naturally they asked for my account number and routing number as StevieG1965 says, to deposit the sum for me.
I'm amazed how they think anyone would believe such a preposterous story!

Been there, done that.If you would like a belly laugh then read how I was able to string along one of these scammers for weeks :))
It's not the scam/spam that's the issue for me. It's the fact that it's coming in to an email address that is NOT public. I expect it on those that are public, but not this, nor the specific emails I created for using at DAZ, RDNA, Poser Pros etc. My rendo email is the only one getting this particular scam mail.

Quote - I just got one as well. Though as usual mailwasher gave it a good slap and sent it to spam heaven.

Does kinda seem like one of the poser sites is selling out email addresses.
well, if that's true then Rendo would be the culprit since they are the only sites that have the address.
I've gotten that spam that more than once its been going around the web for a while.
I don't read spam. I delete it. Unopened.
If it's something that I don't know or stupid it goes right into the bin.
I usually get them through CP because I have a private email that I only use for these accounts, nothing else.
i get many of these, have for yrs to my hotmail . but, when i take the time to actually look at the address it was sent to, its not mine at hotmail. but something else at hotmail...lol
i sometimes think that when they get sent out to thousands of addys and some are no good they get re-directed to addys that are only simular.....JUST DELETE THEM AND IGNORE THEM.
mine today says a long lost family member in some far away country died and left a mill. if the lawer who sent it could just verify i'm related..............lol
netta
I'd gotten one the other day, now I've just gotten a second one. It'd be either Rendo or DAZ that sold my address out.

This may sound cruel, but many of the people who get scammed by these schemes deserve to get scammed. I speak from experience dealing with idiots who become angry when warned about the scam they are about to be taken by. What I mean is that they become angry at the person(s) warning them, not at the scammer(s).
Are you guys telling me you actually READ spam?
I let MailWasher handle it and never ever read any of it. So I can't say if I've got exactely this one. Probably, but I get several hundred spam mails every day (on various accounts) so I just delete it en bloc.
Occasionally that means that a legitimate email gets deleted, but... if people would just use proper subject lines... I do LOOK at the emails MailWasher marks as spam, but a subject saying "Hi there" WILL get deleted unless I specifically know the sender. Then I'll look at it, still in MW and decide if I want it on my computer or not...

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA
Using Poser since 2002. Currently at Version 11.1 - Win 10.
This stuff always goes in my Spam folder but I will occasionally look at some on my pc at work just to see if my filter has dumped something it shouldn't, which it has before, this one I looked at because I am desperate for a new job but not that desperate!! [LOL].
Injustice will be avenged.
Cofiwch Dryweryn.
Is anyone taking the time to read? It's not the fact that people are getting spam - I get up to 1000 a day
It's the fact that they are coming to email addresses that are created exclusively for use with Renderosity website.
If it was to one of my other addresses that gets them I woudn't even notice them because MailWasher gets rid but it is the fact that I, and several other people have created an email account that is ONLY used on this site for ebots, newsletters etc - it is NOT on any readme files that could be harvested, it is NOT given out ot anyone, and is NOT ued on any other site. (would be silly to us a 'renderosity@' email at DAZ)
So, as in the other thread on this topic, the only way we can see that the address could be obtained by these spammers is hacking or selling of email addresses.
Edited to say that it is not hotmail/yahoo address - it is one I created from on of my own domain names
Gill
"Are you guys telling me you actually READ spam?"
Nope. One joy of Mailwasher is the preview window :)
I'd seen this thread eariler in the day - and then got some.
Yea spammers can send email to nearly every account in an entire domain - so yep I could understand that if it was say yahoo or hottmail, or even to rosity accounts.
But the same mail across mutilple domains, one like Gills. I got one sent to a secure account that one of my employers uses. That address is only used normally on a staff intranet
and for the odd external purchase. Which all says someone in poserdom is selling a mailing list.
If a store is selling our addresses then they should be honest and say so. Thats practice for many companys. Take SKY the uk statellite company - when you buy from them they openly admit they'll sell your details to 3rd warranty insurers.
BTW - don't bother with those policys - they are useless :(
Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
I would also point out that I never sent mail out on that account, I only received.
If I got an email via the rendo send mail option, say from a vendor, if it needed a reply then I sent that out using a different email address.
This morning, I created a new address for use here on a different domain. I'm now getting the ebots come in to that new address but still getting spam to the old one.
Gill
WAF!!!,Now it has begun, the next mail.Yes ,I have the time to read.I opened the source-text.Why I have got the time?Because I never got Spam-mails.Why?Because I never give my e-mail address to a side I don't trust.I only trusted a few sides.Mainly poser-related.Especially Renderosity. So how did anybody get to know my e-mail address? Some People here told they only used their e-mail address for Rendo. So either Rendo has been hacked or there is a black sheep among your crew.
"How do you know if worms arent attached to them?"
Mailwasher shows the size and only previewing doesn't open attachments.
"Any site these days sells off their list for the money."
I know for fact the stores I sell at including Content Paradise, Vanishing Point, Dark Anvil, Netherworks and Cornucopia doesn't.
Some of these stores will not even provide email addresses to vendors for support issues as their privacy policy is that professional strict. I'd assume most other Poser stores would be the same as well.
If you found XYZ's poser model store, despite a privacy policy, was selling your email address to a list broker would you buy from then again ?
Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.
Keep in mind that a list of valid member e-mails is one of a website's most valuable assets.
But, if a site was selling the member's e-mail addresses, would they tell anyone? Would they even tell other people in the company? What would the marketing department think if their anti-spam advertisements were becoming worthless because someone in the sales department was selling e-mails to the very people that the marketing people told customers they were being protected from?
So, you could ask Yahoo and Hotmail (for example) if they sell their addresses and they'll always tell you "no"... even though the person who responds may not even know that the sales department is doing.
However, it's tough (and wrong) to accuse a site of selling e-mail addresses without definite proof.
VanishingPoint... Advanced 3D Modeling Solutions
Considering how frisky and eager the site admin team was to personally propagandize certain recent policy changes, complete silence now is a bit out of character.
Quote - Maybe the site itself is not guilty. There may be only one black sheep among the site-crew selling e-mails.
Renderosity needs to investigate this matter seriously and if it is discovered that one of their staff is guilty of this then they should take the appropriate action against the person(s) involved.
I am going to forego making any subsequent purchases until this matter is completely cleared up.
This issue has already been discussed in the community centre. Please keep the discussion in one place.
No, Renderosity is most certainly not selling or sharing our mailing list to any third party.

like all of you I despise Spammers and would like to see something done about them!
where are the Centurians when you need them?
Wolfman,
time to put them on special assignment to track down these spammers!!
