Subject: PLEASE HELP! VERY frustrated :(

Emanaia ( ) posted Wed, 21 February 2007 at 2:03 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:57 PM

Been using Poser 7 for some time now and never had an issue with it. Now, all of a sudden it is crashing on me. It opens without a problem, but when I go to open a picture I have been working on, it does not pull it up but immediately closes the entire program. Like I said, I have never had that happen before. Is there some sort of patch out there that I am supposed to get or info I have not read somewhere concerning this?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me!

Is this happening with one scene in particular, or when you try to open any existing scene?

It is not any one in particular. I have tried opening 3 different files and all have the same results. I can not figure out why in the world it would start doing that now.....

Do you have "Use external binary morph targets" switched on in
Edit ==> General Preferences ==> Misc ?   I think that that has been linked to crashes in Poser 7.

I checked and yes it is marked. :(

If it is switched on, you want to switch it off.

Nope, didn't work either after I unchecked it. I even restarted the program again after.

I think that that fix prevents new scenes from developing the same problem.  I assume that it takes effect when a scene is saved, so I don't know of a way to recover the files that are already affected, since they can't be opened in the first place.   There have been a few forum threads touching on this, though, so I am having a look, to see if anyone came up with a way to fix the damaged files.

Deleting you preferencefiles can help, look in the E-frontier Poser7 support how to do it, It doesn't have mean your files are damaged.

good luck,

Thijs.

This has happened to a lot of people, me included.  It manifests with Victoria 4 for sure, although there may be other content that can make it happen.  One thing that you can do that will let you open the files is to locate the .PMD files that are associated with that scene with a file browser and rename or delete them, but be aware that any morphing of figures that you did via morph sliders or with the morphing tool is lost.  As far as I have heard from anyone, there is no other way to work around this problem.  If you do this, you can at least recover the basic figure positioning, posing, lighting, materials and camera settings.  I am pretty certain the morph data cannot be recovered at this time, maybe in a future service release for Poser 7 they'll have a way to recover it.

It seems pretty clear to me that even though this problem manifests with Victoria 4, the fault is with Poser 7, as there is simply no excuse for an application to just blow up and die even if it's reading malformed or corrupt data, that's bad error handling on e frontier's part.

To answer quickly as I am running out of time, I will definitely have to read more carefully what each of you have said tomorrow. BUT pjz99, you may have something there. I WAS working with V4. Thank you all for trying to help and if you can think of anymore suggestions, just let me know!
