Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 25 12:38 pm)
Just the .pp2 file. When you add an imported item to your prop library it embeds the geometry into the pp2 file.
This could get tricky down the road, because if anyone wants to distribute their customized versions of your pp2 (with morphs, etc), they will be distributing the geometry you made with it (bad news, especially if you are selling the item). It may be better for you to make a copy of a pp2 that comes with poser, and change the object references to your obj, open the pp2 in Poser and resave to your library to make the thumbnail.
Hope this helps.

Hope this helps.
thanks, but i have a problem, my prop is composed of multiples models. There are 6 .obj files in the prop..
Just a sidenote. If you import a object into poser and save it as a prop the file-size will be in most cases 20% smaller then the object filesize. What also had to think about is the fact that everyone with poser can import the object spawn it and also distribute then the file. Looks for me just as more work with the pp2-reference to the object. SHARKEY
Robert,
True, referencing an obj won't protect you from people illegally distributing the file, as you've stated. Heck, they could just distribute the obj file. What referencing the obj does is give people the opportunity to legally distribute pp2's with morphs and such for your prop (if your selling the item, this could be good for business). It's certainly not a requirement, and not as necessary for props as it is with character .cr2's, but it could be worth the effort. Plus, if people have the seperate .obj file it's easier for them to make morphs in modelling programs and re-map the .obj for texturing purposes.
i need the .obj are independent because the model is a posable model. How can i make it a figure ?, and sorry for so many questions.
If it's a figure, it should be one object file. With each poseable part being a different group. Then you make a PHI hierarchy for it and turn it into a Poser figure. Converting a PHI file in Poser will create a CR2 that references the obj.
When I say "should be," that's not your only option. It really depends on what this is for. If you're selling it, I'm personally of the opinion that it should be set-up as "professionally" as any DAZ product. If you're just planning on sharing this with a few friends, you can certainly take some short-cuts.
