Subject: Poser 6's performance on a mac mini

Does anyone know what is the performance of Poser 6 on a mac mini?

I'm planning on buying a mac computer and I'm looking on the mac mini model which is the cheapest mac computer today. However, I'm not sure if 3d applications like Poser will run decently on an integrated video card with only 64 MB of video RAM which is what the mac mini has.

Hi im running poser6, Cinema4D studio and vue5
on and old G4 733 MHZ "quicksilver"
Posing and  keying animation is a breeze but
firefly  rendering is still unacceptably slow and ponderous
not that it matters to me as I never actually render in poser except open GL
preview tests
i render  my poser animation Cinema4d via inteposer pro
but your mac mini should suffice.

Good luck

It runs okay for me - the only place I really notice the difference between it and my higher powered Mac is during rendering - rendering takes considerably longer. But setting up stuff and loading stuff from the library is only a little sluggish. Oh saving and loading scenes is slower too. I'm sure it would not be able to render as complex a scene as a PowerMac or high-end iMac but I haven't run into that yet since I do fairly simple scenes. On the other hand, Hexagon does not run properly on my Mac Mini and I've given up trying to use it on that Mac.

I have a mac dual mini ..and poser 5 fly's for me... and i did test P7 on it and the rendering was damn fine.. faster then my XP pc with same scene..
But i did upgrade to 2 GB mem...

For the rest of it im in love with mac....
And hexagon does not run properly on any machine due to its unfinished progaming..
So Hex is not a good testmarker for this ;}

The mini will prolly run P7 faster than even my venerable dual G5 sitting on the desk because of the processor (Poser 7 can take advantage of the dual core). Poser 6 on the other hand will likely bog down hard on the Mini. Again, I've seen it bog down sometimes on my box (PowerMac dual G5 1.8, 2GB RAM, 2 vidcards...), so I can only imagine how bad P6 would be on a Mini. Best bets would be DAZ|Studio w/ plugins (less than $50 w/ a decent set of plugins for it) unless/until you can afford Poser 7, I suspect (dunno... I'd toyed w/ the idea of Poser 7, but I want to save up for a new PowerMac first, so D|S works just fine for me). /P

If you're getting a Mac mini, please also try to go with Poser 7 as well. And be generous with whatever RAM you can afford to add. P7's multi-processor capability and universal-code compliance make it night and day better performance-wise compared to P6 on the Mac mini. SS
