Not exactly happy that the freebies are now for Poser 6/7 users only......

o.k., thx fr the info, e-f. don't forget to keep us posted on the schedule for SR1 of P7 😄

Just to make it clear: if I join Passport, can I download CP Freebies for free even without owning Poser 6 or Poser 7, right?

jefsview ( ) posted Wed, 21 February 2007 at 10:51 PM

Yes. If you are a Passport member, then all freebies are FREE all the time, any time during your membership. Most of the older one available on the CP Passport Content CD. As are the G2 males, and the replacement G2 for prevous Poser owners (if you own P6, then you get James and Jessi G2 free).

...does this mean that none of the content will work in P5?

It says on the owl page...

"Always free for Passport Members. Free for one week for Poser 6 & 7 Owners."

I work in pro pack because this machine isn't up to XP and a little CR2 editing gets these freebies working in this OK. Never had any problems with the EF freebies in this way.

I'm both a Passport Member and a Poser 6 and a Poser 7 owner (registered with e-f); yet to get this week's freebie it is asking for Poser's serial number (which I have written on my Passport card that came with P7) and it is saying my number is invalid and CP apparently no longer recognizes my 6 month Passport membership...?

nghayward ( ) posted Thu, 22 February 2007 at 7:04 PM

If you are a passport member you don't need to remember your serial number just say you don't own poser and you can still download without being asker the serial number. A lot easier than looking up the number.

Special thanks goes to CP for excluding those of us with P4/P5/PP from downloading CP weekly freebies.

Nice friendly way to do business.

mrsparky ( ) posted Fri, 23 February 2007 at 10:40 AM

When trying to download I got asked for the serial as well - in the miki edition theres 3 cd's with 3 numbers. Last 1 finally worked.

question for Efstarlet - if enough people asked CP, would they reconsider their decsion and open up freebies to everyone like before ? It would be good for everyone.

Well, I for one will be dropping CP from my shopping list.

I can understand why the content might be P6 or 7 only but a freebie might be usable anyway.

It might need a new texture or something but thats doable.

Maybe its just not worth them paying for the bandwidth for those with obsolete versions of Poser.

I never got a serial number for Poser 5 download either :(

I think it mostly means they didn't test it in 5 or earler, and they are not going to support (i.e. answer questions) about using it in p5 or earlier.

**Free isn't free when you have to buy something else first.

This is like those commercials that offer you the "Newest, latest, earth-shattering, life changing Product Z" for free. All you have to pay is shipping and handling. You're still paying someone for something and that's not free.

Like others here, my machine isn't up to date enough to run Poser6 or 7 and I'm on a  limited income (which translates into Poor), so I doubt I will ever own those versions of Poser. And being as how I'm on limited income (Poor), I don't see me ever buying their membership either. So while the "freebies" may be good, they're no longer for someone like myself.

Why does this remind me of WIndows? They come out with XP and drop support for previous versions. Poser5 is given away to who knows how many and as soon as that promotion is over, they drop support for it and then CP gives the "Freebies" away only to users of P6 & 7 or CP members.

As a business, they can handle it any way they wish. I just wish they wouldn't call them "Freebies". Oh well. Their business and my two cents.**

hmmm...just tried it out. I 'joined' Content paradise not long after it opened. I tried downloading the owl, and didn't try Poser 6/7. Tried the Passport option, and it wants $3.99 (or close to it). I'm confused (but I'm also bereft of credit, so if this is the story, I'll just have to pass.

It will ask you for your P6/P7 serial. I was just there testing it so it doesn't matter if you're just a paid passport member. Unless they just changed it you have to enter your P6/P7 serial each time? wow, very confusing. Just to download a freebie?

It's not free if you have to pay for membership & the current version of the software. Pretty expensive for freebie item don't you think?

While I am not an attny or anything like that, I am aware from working many many years in retail that advertising something as free, and then requiring consumers to buy something else, to get the "free" item is probably illegal, at least it is illegal to do that here in my state.

I suggest folks who are really ticked off by this, report this/file a complaint about this sort of thing to their own state AG.

Their contact information can be found here:

I know I'll be dropping a line or two to mine.

I meant to add this to my previous post as well, but apparently by the time I had the particular passage looked up and copied down, my time ran out, so here it is.

§1345.02 Unfair or deceptive consumer sales practices prohibited.

(A) No supplier shall commit an unfair or deceptive act or practice in connection with a consumer transaction. Such an unfair or deceptive act or practice by a supplier violates this section whether it occurs before, during, or after the transaction.

(B) Without limiting the scope of division (A) of this section, the act or practice of a supplier in representing any of the following is deceptive:
(1) That the subject of a consumer transaction has sponsorship, approval, performance characteristics, accessories, uses, or benefits that it does not have;
(2) That the subject of a consumer transaction is of a particular standard, quality, grade, style, prescription, or model, if it is not;

(3) That the subject of a consumer transaction is new, or unused, if it is not;
(4) That the subject of a consumer transaction is available to the consumer for a reason that does not exist;
(5) That the subject of a consumer transaction has been supplied in accordance with a previous representation, if it has not, except that the act of a supplier in furnishing similar merchandise of equal or greater value as a good faith substitute does not violate this section;
(6) That the subject of a consumer transaction will be supplied in greater quantity than the supplier intends;
(7) That replacement or repair is needed, if it is not;
(8) That a specific price advantage exists, if it does not;
(9) That the supplier has a sponsorship, approval, or affiliation that the supplier does not have;
(10) That a consumer transaction involves or does not involve a warranty, a disclaimer of warranties or other rights, remedies, or obligations if the representation is false.

It says "Free to Passport members & software owners with registered serial number(s)." right on the front page of CP. Where is the deception?

aeilkema ( ) posted Sun, 25 February 2007 at 4:55 PM

I can understand CP doing this, but I don't think it's clever and for sure it's going to cost customers. But I've never understood most of the marketing strategies various Poser stores adopt. They are going out of their way to offend customers time after time. Very odd, I always thought a marketing strategy is supposed to draw customers, not scare them away.

I think they should at least allow customers to download the freebie even if they are not a passport member of do not own the required software. Perhaps if you buy something you have the option to add the weekly freebie to your order also?

For myself, I really don't give a hoot about their freebies. I have plenty of paid and free content in runtime to keep me busy for the next twenty years and longer. I make my own stuff as well I don't need CPs freebies. It was nice to go there downloading some of the mutant animals now that I can no longer enjoy doing that, CP has been removed from my bookmarks.

It's their childish attitute that irks me the most.

It's not a freebie if you have to pay for membership and or pay for upgrade to download the so called freebie.

It just doesn't make sense to me to exclude 95 percent of the Poser user base from downloading a freebie.

*That means that only 5% of the Poser user base is using either P6 or P7?

So what, suppose only 1% of poserdom used an older version of poser. Heck just for fun lets say only one person on the entire planet uses poser 4 still.

It is still not  a "free" item, if that person has to either buy an upgrade/newer version of the software, or a passport membership in order to obtain the "free" item.

What the hey though, if some are fine with being led to believe that something is free, when they infact have to pay for it by all means keep paying.

While your at it, I have an item up in the freebies, you can all pay me for free stuff too, I accept cash, visa and mastercard.
