Subject: ok how do you yank out this damn P7 SR1???????

Darboshanski ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 12:36 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 4:14 PM

It's more trouble than not. I wasn't having any problems rendering scenes now the thing is telling me " The firefly render engine has encountered a problem" and it goes into telling me to use smaller bucket sizes and bs like that. I use an 8 bucket size how much damn smaller must I go?

I went to add/remove programs and have the update box checked to see all the program up dates. I don't see SR1 under poser 7 do uninstall it. So how do you get rid of it?

Same problem here, can't uninstall it & my morph brush no longer works!!!

thefixer ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 12:44 PM

Well I've installed it but haven't used it yet, got enough problems with Vue6Inf final release to worry about this as well.

Make an installation with minimum content over the existing installation. Only chance I see.

How very, very odd.  SR1 has fixed the render problems that I was having.  But a few people are apparently having a different experience with it.

I'll have to play some more, and see what it does.  But so far: no troubles at all.  In fact, it's better all around.

I better check the morph tool.  Sharen

Why not just uninstall Poser and then reinstall it again minus the SR1 release? It shouldn't affect your runtimes.

not sure if it'll work but you could check your "system restore" points to see if you have one from before you installed Sr1, just roll back time to a time before Sr1 ( CAN be undone if it doesn't work).

Jules53757 ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 2:45 PM

Try a minimum installation over the existing with SR1

Seems to be the thing of late for me reinstalling poser 7. I had to do it a week ago because it never fully installed and here I'm going to have to do it again. OR..it may have been just too many things in scene I was rendering. 4 figures plus a huge bunch of props with hi-res textures. I've never did such a big scene before and the problem may have been my fault.

Mine is now very slow to start up, and the Poses take forever. Render times about the same.

turtleheart ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 6:13 PM

There is a serious memory leak in the SR-1.    Do not install this.  The damn thing just blew out my hard drive.  I am uninstalling P 7 and re installing without SR-1

ah.... could you be more specific....sounds serious. Are you saying the HD gets a continuos workout leading to failure??????

Teyon ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 6:56 PM

Yes, Turtleheart, please elaborate.

BrianR, the morph brush works fine for me. Double check the settings for it, as you may need to up the intensity some.

Willber ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 7:23 PM

All is working well here.....wild at first until I did a reboot and so far no problems.. knock on wood.

Did clothroom simulations with 4 cloths, morph brush OK, all rendering ok., object imports good
English install and region..

Lord, this is really starting to sound bad for the average user. First Vista, and now the highly anticipated P7 service pack seems to have been released with rabies. Thanks for the heads up, Sealtm. I was just about ready to install the darn thing.

Darboshanski ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 7:48 PM

AS I stated earlier. I really don't think it was the SR1 that caused the glitch I think it was my error and I had way too many high res figures in the scene (4 not including hair, props and other things) since then I have had no problems rendering has been fine I think I just overloaded that one scene and too much switching back and forth render sizes and DPI numbers. I haven't been in the cloth room yet so i don't know. I have yet to use the cloth room in P7.

When I run P 7 with the SR 1 update, if I can get it to come up at all, I get about one render, then my entire screen goes blue and I get memory messages and I know that I have memory because I turn off anything running before I even launch Poser.  I tried to re-install my P 5 and I am not only getting about 4 renders before it crashes and P 5 was doing fine before.  Now everything is crashing.  I sent a note to e-frontier tech help and I got back the standard response........... "we tested this thoroughly in Windows and especially XP Pro and we know that it is fine."  It is crashing my entire hard drive and this is not good!  My contention is that P 7 was not a good release and that the SR 1 is equally bad.

XENOPHONZ ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 11:23 AM

I've been playing with P7 SR1 for a couple of days now.  I haven't had ANY of the problems that have been listed here by others.  And I've tried to replicate those problems.  Nothing's happened -- except that I've noted improvements in P7's overall performance since I've installed SR1.  P7 now runs better for me than it did before.  It hasn't crashed since I've installed SR1, and the program will now render out scenes that it choked on previously -- with raytracing activated.

Sorry to hear that others are having the problems that they are.  But it's all been good on this end.  Based upon my own experience with SR1: I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Unless if you aren't using the English-language version of Poser.  Then it might be a different story.  For the time being, anyway.

How could a service release blow out a hard drive?????

turtleheart ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 3:28 PM

I have no idea but it went totally down and now gone.  Fortunately, I have another computer with same stuff on it and 3 external HD's  It may have been about to blow anyway but was working fine until I installed the SR1.  Who knows?  Its just a puter and HD's are a dime a dozen now and hubby can rebuild this one in about 3 hours with a new hard drive.

drifterlee ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 4:50 PM

I only use P7 to render and it is working good for that. I set up everything in P6 because of the problems in P7.

SAMS3D ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 5:46 PM

Mine works great also, no reported problems.  Sharen

moogal ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 5:57 PM

So, maybe I should hold off on SR1?  That's OK, as the only problem I've ever had with P7 is the one where it disappears in an instant.  Did that even get fixed?

coltrace ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 6:20 PM

It works perfectly, no problems at all. Using for 48 hrs now.Great.
Everything is smooth and quick...except for the problem with
the background picture not rendering/showing in the P4 renderer.

When will that be fixed...or  isn't it worth the trouble..
That's the only annoyance  otherwise the SR1 update is lovely and
well thought out.
Go for it..!

Faery_Light ( ) posted Thu, 01 March 2007 at 8:41 PM

I downloaded it but haven't installed it yet. Can it be installed over runtimes with added content? Instructions reccomend a fresh install of P7 before the update, why? I think I'll hold off a bit longer too and see what else is posted about it. shrug
