This genre challenge was a true challenge in voting. Only a very few were quickly "eliminated" while the others...oh man oh man...some really fine shots. This was tough since so many  well done "images of different personality and perespective" are in the challenge..  I did vote.  For this one, I would have liked to vote several times! LOL

A agree with Tom...tons of terrific entries. A tough choice.

maybe have a 1,2,3 voting system, it might also get rid of the joint 2nd and 3rd places we have got in the past...  but yeah - great shots to consider and i know what you mean about different perspectives (mine probably being one of the ones you were thinking of when you said that😉)

Well at least yours would have been one of the ones that Tom struggled to chose from, mine were probably the ones "quickly eliminated"!!!

hehe - no, i'm fairly sure mine wont land anywhere, it was a poorly taken shot and not even for the competition, i just saw the comp and thought of the shot i took that day, and twisted the "Transport" genre to fit the shot 😉

500th post... ooo ooo ooo.... do i get a medal or something for sticking around you bunch of loons for this long?

Yikes, Rich. You keep up with posts or did this 500th just hit you as "what am I doing!"   That is an accomplishment..in its own perspective.  Ha.  Stick around a while longer. Looniness is to be shared.

BibbyBear ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 6:04 PM

Ha!  I'm already qualified in the looniness department - plenty to share around there then!

Rich ..... I've just been surfing your bio on your own website (I've been there before looking at some of your photos - great stuff!) but I can't find the answer I'm looking for....

Being a woman, and an exceptionally nosey one at that (not really!) I like to understand a bit about where people chose their online names from - some are more apparent than others, some are in languages that I don't understand and therefore am usually too embarrassed to ask, but yours ....... well you're a Brit and I just can't fathom what it might mean??

It doesn't have anything to do with your surname does it??

Or is it perhaps Latin??  You did say you studied Latin in school??!!

Sorry for being inquisitive!

it is actually an arabic word, meaning "if god wills it" or "god willing" properly transcribed it should read: Insha'Allah, but transcription of arabic is often up to the person who writes it - arab speakers on the internet always know what my name means, even if i havent written it as standard.

So yeah - there you go.  As for finding it in my bio i think i failed to mention in there that i lived in Oman from when i was 6months old til 7 years old and travelled back and forth annually if not bi-annually until i was about 16 (my dad worked over there), and a little knowledge of arabic is never a bad thing in such circumstances and nor can you avoid picking up basics.

On the subject of linguistics and because i study spanish, the spanish "ojalá" is derived from the arab word, and the spanish translates into the rarely used and archaic form of  "would that..."

So - as you asked, where is yours from?

That was difficult - I really mean that!
For the Vue contests there USED to be a 1,2,3 system but now it's just 1 pic now as well - trying to narrow the photos down to 1 was hard - good entries everyone!

And Inshaala - the looniness has only begun! MU-HAHAHAHAHA!!! ("They're coming to take me away, haha...")

You see, now I feel like I've learned something proving that old cliche "You're never too old to learn" or disproving "You can't teach old dogs new tricks"  HA!
Mine is quite simple: I'm a lover and collector of teddy bears, a true "arctophile" and I had a bear custom made for me to resemble my step-dad ..... reading glasses, big bushy eyebrows, newspaper (I actually have an avatar with that bear on it!!) ....  anyway, as I had to think of a name for this bear, but I lacked imagination, I called him "Bibby Bear" as Bibby is my step-dad's surname!!
See, boring really - but I usually find it quite unique when having to think of a username on different websites whereas "Chrissy" is used loads of times and I would end up with "Chrissy 68543" or something else equally as ridiculous!
Thanks for the info though - you are very well travelled for someone so young, and very well educated too - a nice quality these days I might add!!

"They're coming to take me away, haha..." - listen to mudvayne much lew? ;)

hehe - ever been to stratford upon avon? it's my hometown and there is a teddy-bear museum there (unbeknownst to a lot of people because of the overpowering nature of shakespeare et al.) and as i remember it they have one of the earliest surviving "teddy" bears and it takes you on a mini tour of their development and history.  I cant remember much else as i think the last time i went there i was around 9 😉
And as for being "someone so young" i am reminded frequently these days of how young i am not, the first sign has happened already - i forgot my age a few days back

Well I unfortunately can't forget mine as it is the big four oh this year for me!!

No, never been to S-U-A but would love to visit but I didn't know about the teddy bear museum - now I have a real reason to go and visit!

I wonder if photography is allowed in the museum????

Perhaps you can give me a crash photography course when I'm down there, you know, teach me the difference between the lens and the viewfinder!!!
