Subject: Help please...Poser 6, or 7?

I just put poser 7 on my wish list. All I have ever used is poser 4 with PP. Any advice on which way to go? I have poser 5, but found it confusing. Also, can you transfer your runtime folder in poser 7? Any advice would he helpful.

I've found Poser v7 to be much more stable than v6.  The only problem I've had was with SR1.

Yes, You can transfer your runtime directory to v7, but the best bet is to install v7 in a separate directory.  You can access multiple runtime directories out side of the v7 directory.

I started with Poser Artist ( Poser 4) and was happy to get Poser 6 when it was launched.  However I moved to Poser 7 because it performs more efficiently.

There are no issues with using runtimes- including external runtimes in Poser 6 or 7 - the main limitations in my experience are the python scripts.

Python scripts need to go into the base runtime, and scripts which were wrttien for Poser 6 do not always work in Poser 7 ( some have been modified by their authors, but you will need to check carefully).

I use a mac ppc dp 1800 and got Poser 6 and Poser 7. The UI on P7 is so slow that I find it mostly unusable. I mainly use P6 with wich I have no problem with. P7 might work better in the futur, but not at the present time.

If you have the specs on your computer, go with the more current version of Poser.

I still have Poser 6 and I like it.  Now that I have a better computer I may get Poser 7 in the next few months, but for now I'll stick with Poser 6.

P7 still has trillions of little errors.
For me the "new features" are not worth the price. The only "remarkable features" are Undo's (standard in todays software) and support of multiprocessors.

Nothing new in the Cloth Room, nothing new in the Hair Room, etc.

Nearly any missbehaviour from P6 is still available in P7.

New in P7 compared to P6: P7 crashes more often (P6 runs 100% stable here).

P7 for me.....much more stable and faster than 5 or 6.......Steve

For Some 7 crashes for others it's stable. Certainly implies that some peoples hardware setups in their PC are better than other setups.

You'll get different responses from different users.  For some, one version works, the other doesn't........ its an enigma.

I can only speak of my experience, I dont have yet 7, so i cant complain about it.  However, there are enough posts on problems to think twice about a switch.

I too found 5 nearly unuseable, the interface was the main problem.   6 did not require this new "learning curve" and moved to a more user friendly format (IMHO).

I hated poser5, took it off went back to Poser PP, still have it. I then got 6, but couldn't understand the lights and it render soooooooooooo slow. but keep it installed.
I bought Poser 7 and I like it a lot. Firefly renders much faster than 6. Thats the nice thing about the newer Posers, you can add on as many runtimes as you want. Don't move them, just read how to connect them. If I can do it, you know it's easy.
