Subject: Poser 7 SR 1 .obj-import

kyraia ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 12:56 AM · edited Fri, 08 November 2024 at 3:06 AM

After installing SR1 the .obj-import (from Wings3D) doesn't work any more. I saw a message in one of the previous threads with the same error: after importing no object appears (even if it is as simple as a cube).

hmm just tested it and I imported my new sword mesh no problems at all

try putting the OBJ through UVmapper and seeing if it appears then (my mesh has been through it)

Darboshanski ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 9:19 AM

I haven't had any trouble I've been sitting here importing all the .obj I made in wings and some others as well. Now watch I've gone and jinxed myself..LOL!

Works fine for me, though the order of dialogs is reversed, which
takes a bit of getting used to...

I've also tried importing some .obj files from both WIngs3D and Silo and have had no problems. This is in the OS X version of P7.

Dizzi ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 1:11 PM

I know the source of the import problems: Regional settings... Import doesn't work with a comma as decimal delimiter, with a point it works fine...

Khai ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 1:13 PM

lemmie test that...

Khai ( ) posted Wed, 28 February 2007 at 1:16 PM

looks like you may have it..

used the regional settings to change from . to ,
P7 SR1 loaded the OBJ but failed to show it.
changed back from , to . restarted P7 and it loaded the OBJ in no problems.

But what kind of  "feature" is this? Poser worked always correct, either with German or with Engisch/ US settings.

Oh crap! There's NO WAY I'm going to change my system-wide regional settings. I HATE when you see something like 10,000 instead of 10.000 - it looks utterly wrong!

I haven't tried inporting anything yet after installing SR1... not it looks like I can't import all my obj's any more?

This needs to be fixed with a SR1.1 NOW!

Thanks a lot for the feedback on this issue. The problems that European users are experiencing are a side effect of a fix for the Japanese Poser version. Apologies for the inconvenience. We're working on a solution and will provide an updated set of 3D file format plugins (including Wavefront OBJ) soon.

TrekkieGrrrl,

Looks like you're simply going to have to move to England or the USA!

I'm glad that they've found a reason for the problems that some were reporting.  It had me very curious: because SR1 has done nothing but good for my setup.  I tried importing multiple .obj files prior to checking back at this thread -- all with 0 problems.

Now it makes sense.

Obj-import doesn't work for me either after the SR1-release. The object shows up in the props, but isn't visible. And I also don't like to change the regional settings!  So I hope it can be fixed ASAP. I was very happy when they fixed the obj. import and export plugin for Rhino4, but now the obj-import for poser is ruined. grrr.

My problem with SR1 was with dyn cloth props I've created with Truespace.  As I loaded the prop, enter the cloth room, my system freezes up as I try and "clothify" the prop.

Other simuliar props had the same issue.

I uninstalled Poser 7, then reinstalled it.  Re-downloaded and reinstalled SR1 from eFrontiers and had no more problems.

I'm using the english version of Poser 7.  And I did change my regional settings as well.

The only other issue I saw with SR1 was regards to exporting to jpg.  The image quality seems to very low.

Can anyone with an OBJ that uses , instead of . please send me a sample obj file? Doesn't have to be fancy, a cube will do. I'm having a hard time creating one on my computer.

I've just sent you an Email with a cube-obj.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it'll be most helpfull, thanks a ton. It seems all my modelers were hard coded to use decimals, so nothing I did would get me the comma type I need to test. Your cube will be a boon!

bernarddup ( ) posted Sun, 04 March 2007 at 8:16 AM

If obj import dont work for you in SR1, you can replace the FFObj.arp file in your plugins folder by the same file which came with Poser7.

bopperthijs ( ) posted Sun, 04 March 2007 at 3:48 PM

Too late, I messed up my installation last evening by reïnstalling Poseur and lost my complete runtime! BTW thank you for the tip, I didn't know the objectimport was a plug-in

Thijs

Our tests indicate that we have found and fixed the problem. Until a new SR1 installer containing the fix becomes available, you can download a zip archive with updated 3D file format plugins here: www.e-frontier.com/filemanager/download/1655/plugin_update.zip. This is Windows only, it is our understanding that Mac OS X is not affected. We once again apologize for the inconvenience.

It is correct that reverting to the Poser 7.0.0 OBJ import plugin can serve as a workaround. However, since there were a number of improvements to OBJ import in SR1 we recommend to use the latest version.

bopperthijs ( ) posted Wed, 07 March 2007 at 4:28 PM

I 've downloaded the file this afternoon, can you also fix the unstall-proces?

regards,

Bopperthijs
