THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Ten Years (you missed the starting gun.....)

Paul Francis ( ) posted Sat, 03 March 2007 at 4:31 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 8:52 PM

I just realised that I've been Bryceing for 10 solid years.  Jesus-I've owned 6 cars (3 Capris!), been owned by 22 cats and three dogs in that time, since getting Bryce as a freebie with "Computer Arts" and running it on my Pentium 133......!

Now, at the risk of sounding like an Old Fart......who remembers these giants of the early days of Bryce, before it got all slick and MONEY.......1) The greatest Bryce artist ever, Necati Pamuk? Where is he? I think something unpleasant might have happened to him concerning either a medical condition or his immigration status in Germany - I hope I'm womg on both counts....2) Skydancer's Copperworld (nothing to do with the police!) 3) JB Allen 4) Jeff Richardson....anyone I've missed?

Respect to Bruce McLeod and Anders Leczjak!

My self-build system - Vista 64 on a Kingston 240GB SSD, Asus P5Q Pro MB, Quad 6600 CPU, 8 Gb Geil Black Dragon Ram, CoolerMaster HAF932 full tower chassis, EVGA Geforce GTX 750Ti Superclocked 2 Gb, Coolermaster V8 CPU aircooler, Enermax 600W Modular PSU, 240Gb SSD, 2Tb HDD storage, 28" LCD monitor, and more red LEDs than a grown man really needs.....I built it in 2008 and can't afford a new one, yet.....!

My Software - Poser Pro 2012, Photoshop, Bryce 6 and Borderlands......"Catch a  r--i---d-----e-----!"

I saw something new from Necati not to long ago but I can't remember where, but I believe it had something to do with a maya gallery. As far as the others Jonathan allen was/is helping us beta test Bryce 6. and the rest I dunno???

Do atleast one thing a day that scares the hell outta ya!!

there used to be a site called 'The Bryce Forum Select Gallery' that had stuff that knocked me socks off..it's what got me into Bryce. Could probably still find it on the Wayback Machine...

I'm pretty sure that the 'The Bryce Forum Select Gallery'' was part of Bruce McLeod's "Watchful Eye" gallery.....one of my own personal main routes into "public-access/online" (?) galleries......Bruce closed it down a few years ago, but still posts his own work here; mostly (I think) in the Mojoworld gallery.  If the evolution of sites like Renderosity/3D Commune and (yes, even the sniffy) CG Network  were plotted out like a tree, Bruce's site would be down near the roots....along with Anders Lejczak's and a few others.  I wonder if anyone new to this scene within the last five or so years appreciates this; in fairness, I guess if no-one tells them, they wouldn't know......or am I just getting old, even by CG standards.......?!

Bruce =BPMAC here at Renderosity
Anders-BAZZE, also here at Renderosity.

Go, pay homage to the visionaries.......

10 years..out of 33. I've been involved with this stuff for a 3rd of my life then.. jeez.

and 3D Creative Mag. called my "CG veteran" (http://www.3dcreativemag.com/issues_2007/february/main.htm) so I guess 10-years is a lot in this 'business" :)

Thanks for this post Paul! I still have fresh memories of 'The Bryce Forum Select Gallery'.

At 36, I'm a baby when it comes to 3D.   I've been fascinated with 3D Graphics since the early 80's.

I started using Bryce when it was just that Bryce and than Bryce 3D v3.1 back in 1998-1999.

I joined Renderosity somewhere around 2005.  Life stuff seems to get in the way all the time.  I dont spend as much time

But in all this time, I havent used Bryce on a regular basis and am nowhere near in calibur as the rest of you.  But I get a lot of enjoyment out of it when I do have time.

Calyxa--now how can anyone forget caly?

er' three...

anyone know what happened to Axe?  I think he used to hang out in the rhino forum here (last I heard of him).

and one of my fave later brycers who no longer hangs out (bruno)...anyone know what happened to him?

wow, 10 years....has it been that long?

:)

I have vauge memories of my brother running Bryce (or was it Terragen) on an old Amiga. That would have been about 15 years ago.

Analog-X64 ( ) posted Fri, 09 March 2007 at 6:24 AM

I dont think Bryce or Terragen were avaiable for the amiga where they?

I remember 3D rendering on the Amiga being more of a scripted affair.

ysvry ( ) posted Fri, 09 March 2007 at 7:24 PM

amiga had good 3d rendering, i think real 3d was for the amiga too, i had it rendering an animation for a whole week the kind of quality thats now realtime lol when i tried to compile the pics into an animation i couldnt play it without buying extra ram i had to upgrade from 500k to 1 mb :) those were the days, not to mention i started 3d on an 48k spectrum, only bw but i was impressed the computer could draw pictures that kinda resembled real objects. that must have been 20 years ago.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

Hello! Founded in 1996, the Bryce Forum gallery was the first 3D gallery on the internet to accept public submissions. It also featured a live judging panel. A lot of great Bryce artists posted their work at the Bryce Forum Gallery for more than 8 years. Here is an old link the gallery (courtesy of Wayback Machine): http://web.archive.org/web/20000830113027/www.watchfuleye.com/brycelobby.html See you, Bruce MacLeod watchfuleye.com Renderosity: bpmac
