Subject: dynamic clothing questions

Andi3d ( ) posted Tue, 06 March 2007 at 2:45 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:47 PM

yea, yea, i know i'm a long way behind here, but i've got a couple of ideas for dresses. And they'd need to be dynamic, because of their design.

Could anyone point me towards some dynamic tutorials please? Preferably ones that are intended for some-one who has NEVER even used a piece of conforming clothing...

many thanks peeps

side note  Possibly, one or two of you may have noticed i've done absolutely nothing new in the last coupla months......had to move back to the UK, and get my whole f'kin life in order. To say I have no motivation right now would be a small understatement. And I got a whole pile of shit to deal with in the coming months. That said however, the creative juices are starting to flow again.....watch this space.

www.philc.net has many written and video, with voice, tutorials.  Extremely informative.  Phil Cooke writes a lot of valuable utilities, many of which deal with the Cloth Room, but he also has tons of very clear and informative help on just using the built-in Cloth Room features.

Here are some tutorials on how to use dynamic clothing in the cloth room:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2665209

http://www.philc.net/CC_sampleVideo.htm

http://www.poserfashion.net/howvic3dress1.htm

Another nice thing about dynamic clothing is that you can easily use clothing on various figures.

Here are some places you can get some free dynamic clothing to try:

It's also possible to make conforming clothing into dynamic clothing:

And it's possible to take a conforming outfit and work with it in the cloth room so that parts of it act dynamic.

Hi, all, I checked out a few of those tutorial links including PhilC and Poserfashion.  Thing is, all of those tutorials are written for Poser 5 and a few for Poser 6.  None for Poser 7.  As a rookie, anything I should be worried about if it was designed for an older version?

My main goal is to be proficient at converting conforming clothing to dynamic.

The cloth room works the same in Poser 5, 6 and 7. Nothing to worry about.

If you want to learn about converting conforming clothes to dynamic, check this tutorial.

If you're using the cloth room in Poser 7, I strongly advise you to get the current service release before doing very much with it.  There are some extremely frustrating bugs with the cloth room in un-patched Poser 7, e.g. clothing will fail to collide with parts of a body like the shoulders, but still work correctly around the hips.  Very annoying.

I’m a HUGE fan of dynamic cloth… even to the point of using it for things like socks and pantyhose because it looks more realistic.  But I’m still one of the ones who cannot use it in P7 (even after the SP1 upgrade).  Either very few people are pushing the cloth room as hard as those of us with the problems, or it is just a random problem with specific computers.  Either way, be warned that you may have a really bad time with cloth in P7SP1.  Even on very simple animations I have fall through and figure explosions.  Very annoying.

There are several new conforms for P7 in my freesection here and I am working on about 5 tops right now. THis doesn't solve teh P7 dynamic problem but it does make more conforms available so the dynamics can be avoided till they get it working right.  I will be posting these items as dynamic and conforming for which ever suits the users taste. The conforms were made in the cloth room so they do have basic look of a dynamic. I've been pretty lucky so far with the dynamics, just the occasional figure blowing up. But if you do not make the dynamic a smart prop (load it first) store the final pose and always start the figure in zero pose. You can rep[lacde the figure without having to redo the dynamics.
