One for those who like a fast lens !

comes with a teleconverter to make it 1000mm F5.6.

don't forget to budget for filters and a set of scaffolding to put it on :D

i take it that handle is to aid you in using the focusing ring yeah? ;P

I'll just empty my pockets and see what change i have lying around... what sort of price is that monster anyway?

Sorry, but I'll stick with the Canon EF 500 :)

No IS either (image stabiliser) or whatever Sigma call it...!!!

[quote]what sort of price is that monster anyway?

I paid £4,500 UK for my Canon EF 500.

Would imagine somewhere between £2500 - £3500  plus at a guess?

inshaala ( ) posted Thu, 08 March 2007 at 1:11 PM

yes it does - f2.8 without f5.6 with... surely that is what you are asking no?

not as much as i was thinking i suppose... doesnt beat that £70k 1200mm f/4 posted last week tho ;)

Thats a fast fat lens alright. I wonder how good the overall quality is though.

Question the question. Answer the question. Question the answer...

I wish I knew what I was gonna say :oP

I recently haad a double hernia op,think I will skip this one

inshaala ( ) posted Fri, 09 March 2007 at 5:14 AM

i was just thinking how one might put the lens on the camera, then i thought you might damage the camera if you did it with the cam lying on it's back (which is generally how i do it if i am out and about (i sit down and the cam goes on my lap).  So what happens, you put the camera on the lens?

"Would you like a camera with that lens?" It is a beast, that's for sure. I am also pretty sure the quality will be pretty good, though I'll reserve judgement for when I see some samples.

LOL! That is one sweet looking monster lens. I sure wouldn´t mind adding that one to my kit....although i have a feeling it wont really fit in my bag. Does it come with a complimentary caddie of some kind? :tt2:

What do you want to fit it into your bag for ?

You could get all your landscape shots without leaving home if you had one of these

LMAO! I guess that´s true....i reckon there´s really no need to go to Scotland this autumn after all. I just spend my money on that Bigma lens instead and climb up on the roof or something to have a look at Loch Lomond. :tt2:

lol Seems an odd design and I  cant see a tripod mount unless it it that odd square shape at the bottom... I guess you could tie some rope and swing it from a tree!!   It would take some tripod for this monster I hear it is 33 pounds in Weight.. Without camera and the converter etc

hehe - andreas, get up to the highlands and they will be speaking a whole different langauge, if not they will be speaking gaelic anyway :) One of my favourite scottish songs is Campbeltown Loch in which the chorus goes:
Oh! Campbeltown Loch, Ah wish ye were whisky!*
Campbeltown Loch, Och Aye!**
Campbeltown Loch, I wish ye were whisky!**
Ah wid drink ye dry.*

When you over in scotland anyway? you'll have to come visit st andrews :)

***"It would take some tripod for this monster"

***At the price I have seen suggested I think it must come fully mounted on the back of its own pick up truck !
