Trust me, just watch this video, PERIOD. It's 8 minutes long, and defintely watch it full screen. we need this for Bryce, lol!!!

0:30 - Real time volumetric clouds. Real time time of day change. Real world correct stars.
2:23 - Instant vegetaion creation. Paint-on grass and tree creation.
3:50 - Road creation. Just drag and drop, instant and perfect.
4:40 - "Voxols" - Basically, Terrain creation on ALL axis (not just height), just start sculpting.
5:35 - Building creation. Click, click, next.
6:23 - Real time indoor lighting.
7:10  - Material editor. Real time ocean wave editing. All aspects.

Wow!  I want that!  How much do you suppose - $6 bucks with platinum club? ;)

Really fantastic stuff!

omac2 ( ) posted Sat, 10 March 2007 at 8:38 AM

i remember using the "old" sandbox from the first engine and this version looks awesome!

Best bit has to be the real time material shader editor.

It be nice to see Bryce 8 witha real time lighting editor. :)

Looks like BRYCE VISTA 9.7 to me
We got some catching up to do.

Yup, Bryce 8.0 for $8, lol!

I can only imagine what that company will do in 2-3 years time with even more advanced software and hardware.

2-3 years...how powerful will consumer video cards be? What will be the good/afordable cpu out there? How many freaking cores will it have?

You see technology like that video, and the thought of 2-3 years down the road just blows my mind.

this is a incredible new engine... If only we could get something like this in Bryce... thanks AS..

real treat to see...  yea Bryce 8.5....    $8.50...

Yeah, who will need Bryce/Vue when you got a real-time landscaping level editor...it's hard to find words when you see everything happening in real-time...it's just unbelievable/miracle; those scenes he's showing would take some minutes to render in Bryce/Vue...awesome stuff there; the whole landscaping software industry are now in crysis! lol

If it was Bryce Vista it would ask "are you sure you want to insert the functionality you just clicked" all the time 😉
would be a sneaky way to get time to calculate stuff ahead though.....

WOW! That was really amazing. I wonder how many hours it takes to get really good at the program? D :p

Analog-X64 ( ) posted Sun, 11 March 2007 at 11:16 AM

I wonder what hardware that tutorial was running on? SOme serious hardware I would imagine.  Wow.

AgentSmith ( ) posted Sun, 11 March 2007 at 6:01 PM

Oh yeah, any kind of booth demo, companies will use very nice PC's, but still not a machine that at least some of could lay our hands on; most likely a dual core 2.x Ghz cpu with 4gb of ram, and definitely the most expensive video card around, lol.

Yet, we also have to realize right now a normal 3D rendering program will usually output an image which will look better than a real time game version, but.......that margin is getting smaller and smaller exponentially.

Video game makers have already announced that they want to create video games that render in real time Raytracing. And, they say that the advent of 4 core computers is the beginning of making that a possibility. Like I said, the next 2-3 years could be an absolutely amazing time for computer speed and power.

yup seriously impressive stuff! Mostly from a performance point of view. The interface looked kinda daunting and technical for ur average gamer. Did u see the total overload of lists and sliders and stuff like that? Hope they'll brainstorm a bit more about that before releasing the level editor to the public. But besides the interface its amaaazing stuff. Great technical achievement.

Level editors can be quite deep in their gui/controls, fairly daunting to the first time onlooker. I've played around with my Unreal Tournament editor a little, and that is pretty steep in its initial stages.

It's completely inhouse, proprietory software, as is (I believe) their real-time rendering engine (for video games) called CryENGINE2.

You can read more about it at the link, including some ridiculously realistic looking enviroments.

Oh well... (thinking a whole demerit?) I did mention Inhouse as well, and my excuse is I don't have vue but had heard - vaguely - that it does vegetation.  But it's so... wow!  I loved that bit where the palm tree waved gently in the wind, and you could see the shadows exactly mimicing the tree's movement... and that bit at the end where he manipulated the waves... wow!

Oh and the indoor lightling bit... oh dear, I've used up all my wows..
