Subject: Warp tool reverses text

Touchwood ( ) posted Sat, 10 March 2007 at 12:53 AM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 3:48 PM

Can someone check this out for me just in case it's something I'm doing wrong.

Essentially, I am trying to warp some text around a sphere (like the Universal studios logo). Everything goes fine until I invoke the warp tool. As soon as the amount of warp has been set, the text goes backwards. I have tried this in both 2.43 and 2.42 and the same thing happens.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

i havent heard of the warp tool, but even if you cant get it working, i have an alternative method.  try making the text.  turning it into a mesh object, add a latice around it, and apply the latice as a latice deformation modifier.  then warp away!

The warp tool has been in Blender for years! I have used it quite a bit, mostly for text, like you. I tried it here also and it DOES invert the text now. So odd. Up until 2.42 it didnt do this (I never used 2.42a) You might want to post this in the BA forum.

P.S. It also inverts it when you use a lattice, by the way.

ok, thats realy weird, i have to check this out.  if lattice is not working then this is a major problem.

can you warp the text in the opposite direction and then rotate 180 degrees?

OK all, I found out what to do to correct this.

Apparently, after an object is warped it is automatically flipped. All that's needed to correct it is to mirror the object and it returns to normal.

Reversing the mouse direction also accomplishes the same thing.  :blushing:

Lol, ooops

Haha! Nice catch Touchwood.
Warp still seems different though in some way to me? I don't remember ever being able to reverse it. Ah well maybe it is my imagination.
