I was annoyed with the long down-time as a site user.  So, picking up on hints posted in the Poser forums at Renderosity, I did a Google search on the domain registrar which fingers were pointed at.  I read the news on that development from the links. 

Oh, that's a seriously bad situation.  If Poser users are to get support for their product, this is a very bad time.  Don't know how long it is going to take to get back the domain name.  Anyway, while some people obviously are able to use the CP and EF websites, I certainly have come up with nothing in my web browser, even having flushed the browser cache, and renewing my computer's DNS IP.

Perhaps EF and CP should just hook up to temporary alternative domain names and serve their own customers first.  But I'm sure they'll take their lawyers' advice.

I downloaded the SR1 upgrade just a few minutes ago from e-frontier's website.

I don't understand. CP and eFrontier website down? No access?

Definitely no access for some people around the planet - me included.

I have no trouble getting in. Using the same system config as last month.

It is a little slower getting images downloaded.

Have you checked your firewall and spy/adware interception programs?

It looks like there are indeed DNS problems with e-frontier.

The site is available intermittently for me. I have to click reload several times to connect to it.

I am not having any problems with either site

Both working fine for me too.

CP was a bit slow to load but other than that,it was reachable for me here in North Carolina USA.

IE 6, latest version.

the problems are sporadic :(

in a nutshell, the registair 'Regsiterfly' have imploded and are under investigation for Fraud, by ICANN and basically are in trouble... a lot of sites (not just CP/EF) are affected.

According to godaddy - the domain name e-frontier is currently being transfered which can take up to 72 hours (or so i've been told).  And if there are as many problems as I've read - e-frontier may hang in limbo until they get things squared away. 

My source in the Pentagon says it's those evil mutant space penguins again :)

I read that 75,000 domains were sunk !  Wow, very serious.

Just been to CP and downloaded some freebies. No probs :)

Yup - I got through at some unearthly hour for me ( too embraassed to mention the exact time, but finally, I got in !)

And when I think that I was to purchase a batch of domains a year ago from them...
But there was something about their advertising that made me not do it.

In a legal decision that stunned even the lawyers for the victor, a U.S. District Court judge on Mar. 8 handed over the embattled Web registrar Registerfly.com to the executive who was running it when it began to founder. Judge Peter Sheridan ruled in favor of defendant Kevin Medina, who had been chief executive of the parent company, Unifiednames, before he was fired by two other board members on Feb. 12.

so... it's back under the control of the man that was ripping it off... if you have domain names with them, get the hell outta dodge now!

Nothng to worry about.
The owner of a domain can lock it - so no one can transfer their domain.
If you want to transfer the domain or change accounts, it has to be must manually unlocked.

Basically it's been designed so no one can nick a domain name.  In the past it wasn't uncommon for someone to steal and then cybersquat a domain name to force the genuine owner to pay megabucks to get it back. 

Some folks would even sit and wait untl a domain had just expired, then steal it 30 seconds before the genuine owner had a chance to renew it. 

Even though theres an appeals process it can take a month or too before the genuine owner got it back. If your site was your business then paying a cybersquatter a few K was the quickest way to get it back.

I've had a couple of customers caught like this. So I renew before the time is up. 

To add - if a person's or company's or business' domain is very much associated with the real identities, then it is worth paying or even going to court to settle the matter.  

If the domain doesn't really matter, and folk know how to find your place on-line no matter what the domain name, then let the sneaky guys swipe it.  But there is a downside - the sneaky guys could also misrepresent themselves as you or your business, and then you will be in the hot seat explaining it isn't your domain anymore.  

So, one has to use some judgment in these matters for a personal or small business, but for large companies, they'll probably have their own IT and legal people on the case.
